For New Windows: The trim ring is required for the proper installation of a new window.
For Replacement Windows: The trim ring is OPTIONAL when replacing a window of the same model using its previous trim ring, as long as the previous trim ring is undamaged.

Seems pretty straightforward. Needed to pre-drill holes in frame for interior trim panel to secure window. But seal already installed made this a quick I install with the right tools.

This window only opens 2.5-3". Had I known, I never would have bought it. Unfortunately it went to the installer so by the time I tried it out, it was already installed. 18" tall and only opens a tiny bit seems crazy. I needed this window for summer ventilation.... Also the slides on the left and right to raise it are not sturdy. You have to work with it to slide it up and down. Only plus is that it looks nice on the van.
