This additive prolongs the useful life of these engines, cleans carburetor deposits and injectors, and will not damage catalytic converters.

lead was in gas to create a sacrificial layer on valve seats to prevent wear (recession) When lead was banned then the engine manufacturers went to hardened seats..and when catalytic converters came along..lead killed them..so unleaded gas. But older engines without hardened valve seats NEED lead (substitute) and this is good stuff from trusted Red Line. Costs more than others..but valve seats cost a lot. Use as directed on the bottle--not website which has an error. Prices are crazy in some listings..it should be about $15.97 per bottle or so. If you need it..you NEED it. (and by the way older engines that need this probably are flat tappet cam engines and NEED engine oil that has correct zddp..so use an engine oil that says it is made for flat tappet cams, classic and muscle cars. DO NOT try to add a zddp additive to other low zddp oils..you wont get the ppm right, and the detergent formula is different too. Get the already made for flat tappet cam oil. It is a must. (Castrol Classic, Valvoline VR1, and Mobil 1 but ONLY in the 15-50 viscosity.

Ordered this for my Dad. He has an antique vehicle, 1954 Chevrolet truck, that requires this. Where we live this is hard to find in stores now. He was happy I found it on here and says it works great

This is a high quality product which I use in my all original 1956 Lincoln gas tank, because the engine does not have hardened valve seats.

This stuff works. After done cleaning intake with all the detergents you put in it. This stuff is added after to get rid of that annoying lifter sound and helps everything on the top-end of your get proper lubrication.

Could be coincidence I guess but after the first two 2 oz dose and two 20 gallon fill ups on a mid sixties V8 Buick things seem to have leveled out...smoother and the idle is and sounds better. I'm not one to use additives much but this seems to be proving to be a worthy investment if done carefully. I did have to find a 2 oz container for the individual doses ...getting an accurate amount into the tank with the fill cap being so low behind the license plate was tricky...but doable. Where there's a will there's a way eh?! I spent many hours on line reading blogs with all the different opinions on lead additives and decided to give the Red Line a try based on first finding out whether anything was actually needed and then which brand to go with ...I think I made the right choice ...so far anyway!

This product contains a sodium compound that replaces the lead that was once part of gasoline. The purpose of the lead was to protect the exhaust valve in the cylinder head from extreme heat and the subsequent erosion it would cause to the valve seat. Red Line Lead Substitute does the same thing, but without the lead. Personally, I think it should be used all the time in all engines even though we now use hardened exhaust valve seats in all cylinder heads - except, of course - vintage cylinder heads used in older engines. Without the use of lead or some substitute vintage cylinder heads have been known to self-destruct in as little as several hundred miles. Red Line is a reputable company. I've used their product in my 67 VW Beetle for over 150,000 miles and my cylinder heads are still going strong. This product deserves 5 Stars. One note: Shake it up really well before using.

Almost impossible to purchase leaded fuel needed to prevent intake and exhaust degradation. Researching for fix on vintage BMW airhead forum I have found many recommendations for this product. Won't know how well it works until engine is disassembled which may not be until the million mile mark. These 'beemers' go on forever when maintained properly. Note this does not reduce or change the amount of ethanol in unleaded fuels, so modify the carbs .
