How to Set up Reolink Wi-Fi Extender RLA-WE1

  • Pairing Wi-Fi Extender with Reolink RLN12W for Mesh Network (Recommended)

Step 1. Power on the Reolink WiFi Extender and connect it to the NVR's downstream port using an Ethernet cable. At this point, the power, CPU, and LAN indicator lights should all be on. Note: Make sure the repeater is in factory settings. Step 2. Connect a monitor to the NVR with VGA/HDMI cable. Go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > Repeater Connection(s). Step 3. Wait for the auto-adding process to complete. Once you see the following prompt, it means the Repeater has been successfully added. Step 4. Click the "Installation Method" in the image above to learn how to install the Repeater. You can unplug the Ethernet cable and place the repeater between NVR and camera to extend the signal. Then, go to Network Topology to check if the camera has correctly received the extended signal. Note: When Reolink Wi-Fi extender is added to RLN12W, the Wi-Fi extender can only be managed on the monitor, and cannot be managed or operated through the Reolink App.

  • Pairing Wi-Fi Extender with Reolink Wi-Fi Cameras only or Home Hub.

Step 1: Preparation: Download the latest Reolink App from App store. Step 2: Place the device near your NVR/router and power it on. The power and CPU indicator lights should both turn on. Step 3: Tap the “+” icon at the top right corner of the app’s homepage, scan the device’s QR code, and follow the instructions in the app to complete the initialization. Once connected, the 2.4G/5G indicator light will turn on.

Troubleshooting Guide

  • 1. Verify Power Supply: Ensure that the power light on your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender is illuminated. A non-lit power light could indicate a problem with the power supply. Try using a different outlet to rule out any electrical issues that might cause the Wi-Fi extender not connecting to the router.
  • 2. Evaluate Indicator Lights: Check the status of the indicator lights to confirm the operating mode of your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender. The extender should be set to either AP (Access Point) mode or repeater mode, depending on your network setup requirements: For wired connections (AP mode): Ensure the LAN light is on, indicating a successful connection to the network via an Ethernet cable. For wireless connections (Repeater mode): Confirm that the device is connected via 2.4G or 5G bands. The corresponding indicator light should display green for a strong signal or yellow for a weak signal. If the signal strength is insufficient, consider relocating the extender closer to the router or within a line-of-sight path.
  • 3. Confirm Connection with Reolink NVR (if applicable): If your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender is linked to a Reolink Wi-Fi NVR, use the NVR’s network connection interface to check the extender's online status. Confirm that the extender shows as online and has a stable connection.

Setting this device up is super easy, you plug it into your router and load an app onto your phone to set it up. As far as I can tell, it's working great. The reason why I said "As far as I can tell" is because this device only works with Reolink devices. Bummer. I did not realize this when I ordered it and after setting it up, I spent a few hours trying to my devices to work with it without success. In any case, it sets up very easily so my rating is based on that feature.

It can't link with the home hub even if the customer service from Reolink recommend this to increase the range between my Reolik cameras and the Reolink hub.

My 5 Reolink WiFi cameras have a terrible time connecting to Reolink wireless NVR RLN12W, even when 30’ away. Tried two separate Reolink WiFi extenders and neither would connect and extend wireless signal. Would not recommend.

The installation and setup of the extender was smooth. I didn't have an issue and the guided setup made it easy. It registers in the app under the IoT section of the Reolink app. The plug is directly on the back of the wifi extender, so the profile of the unit if huge, and I had to be mindful as to where I could install the device as it would otherwise cover any neighboring outlets. There is an ethernet port and that has provided the fastest speeds when my client devices connect to the extender. It's fast enough that I can reliably browse the internet and watch videos. However, when I run the extender without an ethernet cable and let it run as a standalone, the speeds are much slower. I wouldn't use the extender for trying to watch videos if my phone or computers were connected to it to watch videos. I have had my Reolink cameras connect to it and the connection and speeds works great, in either standalone or ethernet connection setup.I have also used the wifi extender to extend the connection from my Reolink Home Hub. My wifi cameras work great in this setup. I haven't had issues with disconnections or slow video playback. I also have some of my wifi cameras doing 24/7 recording, going through the wifi extender, and the video stores just fine without any gaps in the playback.Overall, I'm happy with the performance of the wifi extender when used to supplement the wifi signal for my Reolink cameras.

I ordered this Reolink WiFi Extender so I can use it to better connect an outdoor security camera with the Wi-Fi in my house. The camera is mounted on the other side of a concrete block wall which is reinforced with steel rods, so it's a bit hard for the signal to get through. I had planned on plugging the extender into an AC outlet that's on the INTERIOR portion of that wall, hoping that the signal would punch through.I think that it would have worked, too, but after several unsuccessful attempts - including one where the app told me that the connection was SUCCESSFUL (even though the indicator lights on the extender clearly showed that it was still in "pairing mode" I began to look online for a solution. The first place I looked was in the product ad on Amazon, which mentioned that this product is "Compatible with Reolink WiFi Devices Only". Hmmm...I remember seeing that this device was "Compatible with Reolink WiFi Devices" before I ordered, but somehow the word "Only" escaped my attention. So it looks like I won't be able to use this device with my NON-Reolink devices, but I'm going to hold on to it in case I decide to invest in some Reolink security equipment at some point in the future. Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide a pertinent review except to say: before ordering, make sure that you actually have compatible Reolink devices to use this with. If you do, this repeater may be just what you need to get your system to work properly together. But if you don't have Reolink equipment, then this repeater probably won't be usable for you (at least, I couldn't get it to work, and I'm no slouch when it comes to networking).

Fairly easy to install and set-up, though a little more instruction or information would be nice as I believe you have to connect to the "wifi network" put out by this unit instead of just your original wifi. However, I love that it supports 5G wifi as well and is compact so it doesn't take up much space as it requires a wall outlet for a power source. When I'm connected to the network signal put out by this unit, my phone and other devices definitely get a much stronger signal now at the other end of my workshop compared to before installing this unit. So far so good! It will be much nicer having a stronger wifi signal by our hot tub now too! I'll update if I have any issues with it should it stop working or anything else.
