Some directions would have been great rather than endless searches on YouTube. Be sure that the bigger window on the butterfly goes with the hook on the key cap (away from screen)

I bought and installed this 4 months ago and the new hinge and key cap is working great! This install was difficult because Mac made it difficult. The install is easier if you also remove the clear plastic anchors from under the key cap and hinge. Then assemble the hinges and plastic anchors together. Then glue the plastic anchors back down with the hinges attached. Then place the keycap. It's almost impossible yo get the hinges on the anchors without also removing those.

I didn't have glue handy, so I left the clear plastic base pieces in place and pulled the new butterfly hinge over starting from one side, then using a small flathead screwdriver to pull the other side while pressing down, carefully making sure all those little plastic pins were in. Those little outer pins are very delicate and without them the key will fall out. After that it's pretty easy to place the key cap -- just make sure it is hooked into one side correctly before snapping in place. Otherwise it is very easy to smush the plastic hooks.Good luck!

you don't want to mess with this if you don't know what you are doing. that's probably where the bad ratings come from.I used this on my 2018 MacBook pro 16 inch. The 2018 has a little silicone shroud protecting the butterfly mechanism under the space bar. I took a chance and just cut it out completely. Installed this butterfly mechanism and spacebar and i am typing with his right now. no problems.be advised there is only one youtube video by this one lady i could find on how to properly do this repair. and even her video was not super clear, but you will have to remove these very delicate clear plastic pieces to get the butterfly mechanism out. and then you will need to use an adhesive to glue them back in once you replace the damaged butterfly mechanism. i used a medium speed drying spray glue that i sprayed onto a piece of paper then used a pick to put the glue in place.Anyway, if you have confidence in your abilities this will work fine at least on the model I have. If you don't then finding a professional might be the best route for you.p.s. Honestly i am pretty inclined with fixing gadgets and so forth and worked on computers for years and if I had not found her video, i don't think i would have successfully made this repair.
