I bought this for playing Game Boy Advance games on my GameCube via the Game Boy Player. The d-pad was faulty on arrival. Down was intermittent and rarely registered a press, while up was overly sensitive and registered multiple inputs with a single tap. This made the controller completely useless and I immediately returned it for a full refund. Do not waste your time or money.

Works great if you use your Gameboy Player often. This controller is comfortable and doesn't feel cheap. D-pad feels good too.

So the dpad feels good enough but the buttons and the plastic feel so cheap and are not the dame as the gamecube oem controllers so theres no way to change them besides that i see not much other options for gb player except the gba itself connected but i think thats the best option

It's a great controller for the GameCube. The D-Pad feels solid, the buttons are clicky, and the center buttons are soft yet firm. The controller's default D-Pad input is the left analog stick, but it can be swapped to the GameCube D-Pad or the GameCube right analog stick by holding the start button and one of the three directional buttons for three seconds which is an alright option, though I would have preferred if that was a toggle switch instead. I also wish the Select was the Z button instead of the Y button or at the least have the option to toggle it between the Z and Y buttons, but I understand that it's optimized to be compatible with the GameBoy Player. The cable length is pretty long making it perfect to play across the room. Be careful about hitting the reset button as it turns off the controller due to the short circuiting which reinserting the controller plug is necessary to restore its power. It's definitely a good alternative SNES-like controller for the GameCube on a great sale.

Very glad someone revisited the concept of the old and horrendously overpriced Hori Pad! All but one of the buttons are very spry and clicky (Y is very soft and floaty, but still seems to work regardless.) Love that they gave it a nice long cable. It looks chunky but feels very good in the hand.

Retro-bit knocked it out of the park on this controller. First off it’s extremely affordable for how well this controller actually does. I right away went to test this controller on solar striker, legend of Zelda and king of fighters 95 all of which are extremely diagonal intensive games and I'm happy to say this controller passes the test with flying colors! The Dpad and triggers are a huge upgrade from the similarly priced gameboy player controller from Old Skool making getting this controller a no brainer. I’m so pleased that I ordered a second one. I was excited for this release as I have gotten previous sega genesis releases and Retro-bit continues to be the best value for replacement controllers on the market. Don’t waste your money buying an original HORI gameboy player controller this is right on par!

Legacy GCOverall: Great controller with an excellent D-pad, take advantage of this if you are fortunate enough to have a Gameboy player.Pros: D-pad is great, bumpers are also excellent (L/R buttons). On the surface, the legacy GC is better than the controller released by Old Skool based on the D-pad and the L/R buttons.Cons: There is a ZL button on the device, and with the GameCube, it'll only register as a Z button (same for ZR). Now the only time this will be an issue is if you use an adapter and plug it into a switch because either ZR/ZL button will be a ZR press. So you won't be able to use ZL+ZR to rewind with the Gameboy NSO. That's not this controller's fault, though; those are the limitations of Gamecube USB Adapters. Speaking of adapters, this worked great with the Wii U/ Switch USB adapter, Nyko, but not the 8bitdo USB Wireless adapter. The A/B Buttons are poppy, but they will probably wear down over time and be less of an issue. Also, The controller always starts in left stick mode instead of DPAD mode, which most users prefer. So if you need to switch anything around, look at the back of the controller, and it'll tell you how to swap between the three control modes (Left stick, C-Stick, DPad).

Picked this up for playing older 2D games and Resident Evil games on my Wii. While the controller feels fine in the hands the buttons feel very cheap and produce a loud click every time pressed. If you compare them to the buttons on an actual gamecube controller you'll notice they're far stiffer. The dpad also feels very rigid. On the plus side I do like how long the cable is and if you can get over the weird button feeling then this is probably great for the exact purpose I laid out. If you heavily value how a controller and its buttons feel though I would advise looking elsewhere (or at least be prepared to return it if it doesn't suit you).Be mindful that since there's no c-stick you shouldn't get this if you intend to play a wide variety of Gamecube games with it. And while the dpad can be set to emulate an analog stick I wouldn't bother attempting to play most 3D games that use the analog stick with it. It won't feel good.
