I was skeptical about replacing this with the points. I worked fine and easy to install.

I used this on my Kawasaki 14 hp motor on my mower. It works but I really don't know if it puts out enough as the original did. My mower used to start with a pull or two. Now it takes 5 to 6....so I'm wondering if its strong enough to assist the coil. I rated it a 3 because it does start but not like it used to.

As others noted, the tab to connect to the engine's wiring is smaller than the original, but a quick squeeze with a pliers on the original connector is all it takes to adapt it to fit the new part. It also doesn't "nest" in the slots on the engine housing like the original, but just the screw has been enough to hold such a small part in place. If that isn't enough in the future, it would be easy to make a small tab or strap to secure it.The differences noted are insignificant compared to paying $75 more for an "original" John Deere part.

Had to change one of these about 10-12 years ago. Spent the $80+ on the John Deere one. Found this one and from the “reviews”, it looked like it should work. For reference, my old JD part number was M73484. That was replaced by JD part number AM132770 which is also the sub for AM131398 and M70114. This is on a JD 240 Garden Tractor with a 14 HP Kawasaki FC420V-ES00.Installed it and first crank the engine started!Since the male connector on this module is smaller and I did not want to cut the original wires on the tractor, I just made a small pigtail about 2” long out of the extra piece of wire that came with the module, with crimp connectors. A mini female on one end (to go to the module) and the larger male on the other (to go to the original connector on the tractor). I also soldered the connectors to the wire after crimping them as I did not want them coming loose. Worked perfect.

Got it today. Was fast shipment. Took it out the box. Plugged it into my John Deere F525, cranked right up. Fantastic. Tip for anyone with a F525. You bout have to take apart whole upper motor to get to the one screw holding the old ignitor in place. Don't bother. Just leave the old one and unplug the wire from it. Mount the new one somewhere else that is easy to get to, grounded, and that the wire will reach. It comes with new wire and plug but just take the original connector and wire and crimp the connector a lil with pliars to make it tighterband it will slide on new ignitor plug and hold in place. Will save you about two hours of labor.... your welcome

JD 260 w/Kawasaki Fc540v 17hp. 1980's model.Tractor was been hard to start for awhile until it no longer started at all. After researching online, I knew it had to be the ignitor or coil or both. My ohms reading were high based on the link below. Found a coil local for $59 and the ohms were good and had spark to the plug, but not in the plug. This ignitor provided the extra spark needed. My tractor runs great...a new life. One note, the connector is smaller than what I had, so I spliced the new connector into the existing 2 white wires. Worked fine![...]

I'm really happy with the Ignition Module. It got to me really fast. Installation was problematic. My old mower (John Deere - SB14) apparently didn't use this type module. I wound up just anchoring the module to the top of what might have been the governor (just in front of the coil). Rather than hacking the existing ignition wiring, I connected the module to the only blade connector on the coil. I reassembled the mower and it started on the first pull. I let the mower sing it's one-note song for about twenty minutes before shutting down. This was probably a three beer job. Also, the module was not that expensive. If it hadn't worked, I could have just pitched it out in the street and still slept the sleep of the innocent.Your Humble Servant,SCIFRESOK
