Works great in a Thinkpad X230, windows XP. The SD card slot in the laptop would crash the laptop when something was plugged in.

Performance is disappointing so transfers can take a while, and the SD card protrudes meaning you need be careful if you leave your laptop sitting around while you wait for the transfer to complete

After reading other reviews, I was worried I would receive the wrong SDAD card. From my experience with CSTMall (this is not an endorsement), I received the advertised SDAD 109 multimedia card that accepts SD and MMC/DUO cards. On the black plastic trim, it says "DUO" with an alignment mark so you know where to put a MMC card. If you receive this SDAD 109 card, I can 100% guarantee that any memory card you put in it will stick out a 1/2 inch. This is by design, so you can remove the memory card without removing the SDAD card. I can also confirm that people complaining that "safely removing this device" in Windows forces you to pull out the SDAD card and put it back in are doing it wrong. In Windows, you literally do not safely remove. You just pull the card out when you are done with it and you can put in another memory card. It does not give you a 'DATA LOSS' warning that you typically see with USB thumb drives. In Mac, you can eject the memory card (command+E or drag to trash) like any other volume and pop in the next card. People complaining that when you pull a memory card, it pulls the SDAD card out with it can fix that issue by sticking a finger on the SDAD card while pulling the memory card. Easy as that. Doing it right, you can keep the SDAD card in your machine forever and never have to remove it. I have not tried booting my computer with anything in the memory card slot. I assume on a PC you enter BIOS to ignore or set the boot preferences. On a Mac, you hold OPTION when starting, otherwise leave it empty. I do not know why people claim to have problems with that. It should be treated like any CD or USB drive attached to the computer. Yes, it can confuse the boot process if the computer is looking for bootable media, so do not leave a memory card in it. I have only tested this SDAD card with a 16MB Class 1 and a 8GB Class 10 SD card and it had no problems with either. People complaining about micro and mini SD compatibility need to invest in an adapter. They usually cost less than a dollar and often come free as a standard accessory with most micro and mini SD purchases.

I have a Macbook Pro and wanted an SD expresscard 34 reader that was flush when inserted. After researching a number of products offered by Amazon, I settled on this card reader. After a couple months of use this card reader has performed without any issues. Card readers a simple products where my main concerns are whether it works well, inserts flush and how much it costs. This satisfies on all levels.PROS:* Works well without any drivers on Macbook Pro* Inserts flush with body--don't even notice it* Great priceCONS:* None

Ive been using my macbook pro for like 4 years, I get along with traveling with a bulky usb card reader all the time. I did know that the Express Slot Card reader for a long time, but at first I am like " why i would buy one if I got a USB card reader, which can reads 20 different kinds of cards?" Up till these days, I travel more than I used to, then I just figured out, some of the times, I will forgot to pack my USB card reader with me, due to I got more gadgets in my backpack, such as the charger for the macbook, the headphones, the iPods, and the computer, also a jacket, the backpack is almost heavy like a big stone, also got no space to put a usb card reader which i will just use it once or twice during a trip. The new macbooks came out with a built-in card reader, I can't deny it is a good move, but turns out they dont have any expended bay for you to play around. The old one with Express slot is great since I can expend whatever I can do, then I did some research on it, and found out that this is the best product that support the macbooks quite well. No errors and just like the built-in one, plug and play. Ive heard that some others may cause the situation of you-cant-boot-the-computer-up-while-having-the-card-reader-in-it. This Sandisk Adapter didnt cause any of these problem. Although when you eject it once, then if you put another card in, you need to eject the entire card out once first, but this is just because of the computer itself, as in "Eject" it will assume you eject your entire hardware, so it will disconnected it. Thatswhy you need to eject the adapter out once before you put in another card. No blame on the adapter.I rated this product as 5 stars, since it just fit into your macbook pros, just so fit, like it is a part of it. You will not find any part of it popped out of the computer, so you can hang it in the computer all day long, and travel around, just like it is built-in. The only bad point of it is it can only read SD cards and memory sticks. There is no support for the CF. Although many of the cameras in the market is using SD these days, but still there are a bunch of High-ends cameras are using those CF cards, and not to say it doesnt read the micro-sd, as many smartphones these days are having the micro SD in it. But hey, if you dont want to trade a space of having a USB card reader, which you may forget it and left it somewhere, this is the product that you need. All you need it plug it in, then there you go.
