Just what I needed! I'm a bonehead and have let my salt run out several times. Didn't need an expensive one to yell at me via WiFi, etc. This is a simple little pulley/magnet system that, when the salt gets to a certain depth (you choose), it emits a beep. Easy peasy. I *COULD* see it being less useful for someone who frequently hits or lays things on their tank (I may be that someone), as the main unit is only held on top of the tank by gravity and the magnets inside the tank. This could lead to the top unit moving out of place. The lever/pulley inside the tank is held in place by magnets and a two sided sticky pad. I may add something to secure the main unit to the tank lid. That's my only recommendation for the maker of this device. I had held out on buying something because other items were so expensive, so... 5 stars!

For a long time I've been trying to find a good solution for monitoring salt levels in our domestic water softner (Kinetico Premier Compact). This little unit fits the need perfectly. Just needed to shorten the cord so the weight was at the right length. We use block salt and the weight just sits on the top of the block until it gets down to just above the water level and that triggers the alarm. Simple to use and simple to install - loved that I didn't have to drill anything for the installation. Sure, a Wifi enabled device like our oil tank monitor would be nice but for the price I really can't complain. Only downside was the wait while Amazon shipped it from the US to UK.

I may get this, but it would ALWAYS sound at 2am while sleeping. Would be better if it had a switch to turn off sound, I will see the light. Or better yet, switch to delay the sound for 8 hours, knowing most people set softener to run at 2am.
