These worked as designed. I used a thin sheet a rubber between the oarlock clamp and the oar (aluminum) to prevent scrapes and strengthen the grip. Adjusts to fit many diameters and they have the right amount of play to allow them to swivel and move properly while rowing.

I only gave these 4 of 5 stars not because there is anything wrong with them, but because they are advertised as fitting smaller diameter oars and they do not. I had to cut up a tractor inner tube and wrap it another oar to get it to grip snugly. Other than that they are just fine and seem to be of good quality.

I had to give stars to present this review. Does NOT fit Propel Paddle Gear 72” Aluminum Oar as indicated by "frequently bought with"; the oar shaft is 1 1/4. But the quality of it seems good if it is purchased for the correct oar shaft size.

I bought these for an aluminum paddle and maneuvered my aluminum boat near the dock/shore. Although many people are worried that these will not hold the paddles they will use, I recommend placing the paddle firmly on it. This will naturally rotate and slightly slide the paddle while rowing. Scratching along the surface of the paddle is small; however, if this involves you, wrapping the paddle with a protective tape or other material is a simple matter. Before using them, I did replace the original bolts with stainless steel bolts and nylon nuts, because I often use paddles in salt water. For the price, even if I have to change them at regular intervals, they are still a great value. The main thing is that although it is a small accessory, it is very powerful and convenient.

PRO:1. Arrived on time, price is not bad.2. Zinc plated steel, so won't rust, I hope. *fingers crossed*3. Adjustable, fits many size oars, (FOLKS, MEASURE YOUR OARS BEFORE YOU ORDER!)4. Can be drilled to add pins on the lower part, not really a pro, but you keep from lifting the oars out of the oar socket inserts.CON:1. No pre-drilled pin holes, trust me, you want this.....2. Picture deception, attached picture is from Amazon, I thought that was a pre-drilled pin hole, it's not, it's a blemish on the picture. Lesson learned.2. If your boat, kayak, etc. doesn't come with the oar socket inserts, buy some, my 12' Jon Boat came with them new, because these will NOT fit right into most oar brackets that come with small boats, they need the oar socket inserts.OTHER:1. So I messed up and did not see there were no pin holes. So I'll have to drill my own pin holes.2. BUY if you think you don't need the pin holes already drilled.3. DON'T BUY if you think this is already pre-drilled with pin holes.4. Search more and you'll see what I'm talking about when it comes to pin holes on the lower shafts.

Have been using these daily on my rowing tender for over a month in saltwater. They're simple, utilitarian, and work fine. Not pretty, but unlike a nice set of stainless oarlocks, I don't worry about leaving them at a public dinghy dock. The included nuts are nylocks, giving you the option of leaving them a bit loose so you can feather your oars as you row to the windward without rattling the hardware off. They're zinc plated carbon steel, and the zinc will wear off the pins quickly and rust. I wipe them down with a bit of thin oil every now and again so they don't get stiff, do that and they should remain serviceable for a long time. If you want to use these with the Shoreline Marine oars, you'll have to wrap the oars in some small cord or leather for fit, as well as to protect the oars from abrasion.
