I have been working on my own cars since I was a teenage girl - grew up with my father's wrenches in my hands instead of dolls - never had time to play with the other girls unless they wanted to work on cars. Now I work on my cars with my adult children and their spouses.Electrical problems are one of my favorites and I must say, my trusty old "test light" has been in my electrical kit for the past 20 years. It is one of those yellow handled lights that simply grounds a yellow wire and you poke the chrome point to the spot you want to test - the yellow light comes on. You can reverse and hook up the ground to a positive and test for ground connections. My trusty old test light has fallen apart and been repaired a number of times. But it still works. You cannot do electrical problem diagnostics without a test light. In my electrical tool kit, I now have two test lights - my simple one and the Sinstar Power Circuit Probe Test Light - high society first class test light.Which is better? It depends on if I just need something simple or something more complicated. Is there a battery ground problem? Simple test light. Is there an intermittent problem with the headlights or turn signal circuit? Sinstar Power Circuit Probe Test Light. This Sinstar Power Circuit Probe Tester 6-24V Short Tester, is really cool, has a 16FT cord, polarity reversing switch, built-in power supply and easy to hold sure-grip body. The non-coiling 16ft cord is nice because with coiled cords, you are always fighting to keep the test probe where you want it and the coiled cord wants to pull it away from you. With this Sinstar Power Circuit Probe Tester, you can stick this probe in a spot, then have two hands free to mess with wire connection checks or take a sip of water to cool off on a hot summer night or take a minute to assess the overall situation. No more trying to keep the probe in place with one hand while fidgeting with the other hand - you are free!!!!Works for 12V or 6V - who on earth has a car with 6V electrical? I do - a 1941 Chevrolet 2 door coupe. As the photos show, recently completed a restoration of my 1948 GMC Truck - a lot of wiring - of course I converted to 12V.Overall, I have to put this test-light into the category of possible test-light overkill or better yet - luxury test light. 16 foot of cord is nice for people who are tracing connection problems from front to back, over and under of a vehicle without having to reconnect the ground at a good spot. One of the biggest problems with doing electrical diagnostics is making sure you still have a good ground connection - otherwise you are deceiving yourself. The newer the car, the more plastics and paint, the harder it is to find a grounding spot.Having a built-in power supply is a new thing - assuming the little battery is in good working order - don't try to turn the engine over with it otherwise the probe will be "toast". Comes in handy, when you want to energize a series of lights to see whether the problem is the bulb or connection - no need to run a separate positive wire along with you in the hard to get to spots like the trunk and under the dash - working to keep it from shorting-out - just another thing to make a hard job, harder. If you need quality instructions on how to use any test light, well, here you need to do a little bit of interpretation.Final question is, is it worth $20? Absolutely. Leave it to Amazon to provide good products at even "gooder" prices.

Needed a power probe to test a few things. Seems to be made of high quality materials. Just have to see how long it lasts.

Missing small fuse adaptor which renders tester useless. Even shows small fuse adaptor in product photo.

It would be nice if this came with some kind of a carrying case to store it in, because all you get is just the box that it was packed in to do that.. With a normal meter, it is just a short cord and stuff, so it is not a big deal.. But with the longer cord, clamps, etc, there is way too much stuff for things to get caught on, and a basic zippered case would have been great to help with that..I am a little confused about the "power switch" part.. It says positive and negative on it, like it will switch polarities, but overall, if you push on the button, the light goes out, release it, and it goes back to normal use.. It is not like a toggle switch, like a light switch in your house.. It is spring loaded, so it only stays off as long as you hold it down, and as soon as you release it, back to on.. I really can see no benefit to this, nor can I figure out why it has polarity markings on it when they have nothing to do with the switch.. All that does is leave you confused..I did test mine with all the basic, connected, and not connected via the secondary external clamp features, and they all work good.. Light is red for positive, green for negative.. and comes on any time that there is a connection.. Very simple to use..Quality is decent.. Not high quality, but not really cheap either.. It is a nice little tester for the home.. It says it uses anywhere between 6 and 24 volts, so that gives a good range for most things that use a battery, be it motorcycle, or lawnmower, or car..I like the idea of no battery needed.. Well, not an internal one that is.. So basically, you never have to worry about the battery going dead in the device, nor do you have to worry about a battery corroding in it and damaging it either.. As long as you can find a positive power connector, and a place to connect the ground, you are good..Overall, the only negative thing that I have found to using this is that you have to deal, with a long cord attached to it.. But that goes with the way that it is made, so I really can not complain about that.I took one star off due to 2 things.. No storage bag, and a power switch that really does nothing, but confuse people by having polarity markings written next to it.. Would I recommend it.. Yes..
