This light stand choice was an excellent choice for me as i was looking for a durable and versatile support for my lighting equipment. It can go up to 9.2 feet tall and provides great height flexibility, making it ideal for various lighting setups, from softboxes to ring lights and COB lights. Despite its compact design, it offers impressive stability, even when extended to its full height. One of the standout features is the spring-cushioned mechanism, which adds an extra layer of safety when adjusting the height. This helps prevent sudden drops that could damage mounted equipment. The build quality feels solid, with strong aluminum construction that can handle a max load of 5kg (11lbs) without wobbling. It’s sturdy enough to support most professional lighting gear with ease. The folding design makes it compact and easy to transport, which is perfect for on-the-go shoots. The locking mechanisms are smooth and secure, ensuring that once positioned, the stand stays in place. Whether used in a studio or on location, it performs exceptionally well and provides reliable support for various lighting needs.Overall, this is a fantastic light stand for the price. It balances durability, portability, and functionality, making it a great addition to any photographer or videographer’s gear. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable lighting stand!

The Small Rig spring cushioned light stand is a great option for photographers and videographers who need a stable, yet portable light stand. The spring cushioning does a really good job of absorbing shock, which is great for extra protection for accidental drop. The height adjustability is also a plus, with a range from 37 to a whopping 110 inches. It makes it versatile for all sorts of shots. Plus, the locking knobs make it easy to get the perfect height and keep it there.I was able to use this stand with my 10 by 10 light without any issues, though adding extra weight to the base is always a good idea for maximum stability. While there are definitely cheaper light stands out there, this one's all-metal construction makes it feel much more solid and stable. And since it's from Small Rig, a well-known company, you know you're getting a trustworthy product. Overall, I think it's worth the extra money for something that's going to last and perform well.

I haven't tried it with everything yet. but it feels like it'll withstand a lot of different pieces of equipment on it and work for a couple different scenarios of uses.

I would consider this to be an entry-level light stand with above-average build quality. It has a mix of plastic and metal parts with spring-cushioned sections. The collared joints, as well as the knobs, are plastic, and the legs extend wide for stability. It has two sections with unusually thick tubes, although the construction on them feels thin-walled.As far as cons are concerned, I would say that the fixed 5/8" stud at the top with a 1/4" screw could have been made out of steel instead of aluminum. On my copy, this stud already had some damage but was still usable. Despite having thick tubes, this light stand doesn't support a lot of weight; it maxes out at 5kg. Overall, this is one of the nicer entry-level light stands I have used, but I would be mindful of the weight limit.

This stand can go higher than most people will need. At its full extension it needed to be positioned in my foyer to not hit my ceilings. The finish on the metal pieces are slightly textured and the matte black color will be great for keeping fingerprints off.Coming from someone who will use this for product photography it has a few minor drawbacks. One of the plastic knobs had some light scuffs. I suspect these knobs may be a point of failure with prolonged usage. The next point is that when in it's most compact usable state, the legs/ base need to be spread out quite wide. Luckily I have an adjustable height worktop that I do a lot of my photography on, but if you're tight on space with a fixed height you may have some difficulty. The iron/ metal components are likely more durable and can withstand heavier weights, but the adjustably of aluminum and carbon fiber tripods make this stand more or a specific use item. The feet are slick plastic and not rubber. I work on carpet or wood floors mostly so having rubber feet would be a nice touch. My final gripe is that Smallrig didn't include a case. I would even be happy paying $5 more for this product if it included a canvas zip travel bag like many other tripods do.If you're buying this product it would mostly be for the height, frame durability, and 11lb load capacity. I wouldn't say this is exactly compact or portable as other light stands and tripods I've used.

Well-designed joints, good cushion reactionGood quality metal stand with a nice matt finish to avoid reflections. While the joints are plastic they are well made and very secure when tightened. It's better made than the typical cheap aluminum stand. The cushioning is very good when unlocking and the bounce has good shock absorption. Note there's a discrepancy in the load capacity of 5kg in Chinese and the English 6.6 lbs as that would be translated to 11 lbs.The height tops 9 feet but that depends a bit on how you set up the legs. You may want to keep the legs wider and the height lower for maximum stability. It folds to just over 3 feet for easy packing.Keep in mind the lower weight capacity as this isn't designed for heavier lights. It's well made for modern smaller COB lights. It should have no problem holding a typical small 150W COB with a softbox. The top end is 1'4"-20 only so if you have to deal with 3/8" you'd need an adaptor.Overall it's a nice portable light stand that seems a bit better made than others in this class
