I stumbled into the external DAC world just looking for something with a coax digital input. I first bought an SMSL SU-1. I wasn't expecting any improvement in audio quality as compared to my Wiim Ultra, but I instantly and clearly heard it. So I went reading reviews and see lots of folks saying this one eclipses even the SU-1 for the price. I heard it. The build quality is much worse than the SU-1, all plastic. I can only guess that they spent all the money on quality components (DAC chipset, Opamps, etc...).

I've been using this DAC for a few months now and it's been amazing. I use it mainly as a DAC for my CD transport, via coaxial and optical audio connections. I purchased it because I wanted sound options depending on what I'm listening to on my CD player. I switch from the CD players built in DAC to this. For $89 it delivers a nice clean, precise sound with a wide sound stage and good bass punch but not over bearing. I'm not an audiophile, but at this price point you're getting a high end ESS Sabre chip that's in much more expensive DACS. You can't go wrong, so I highly recommend it.

Used this DAC SMSL PS200 , instead of the internal dac in my dvd player to play my CD's through my amplifier . Noticable difference in sound quality . Very satisfied !!

Non mi aspettavo così tanta dinamica, suono imbarazzante, validissimo anche col bluetooth.Impianto Yamaha as 701 e wharfedale linton.stra-consigliato!!!

So far a decent capable DAC for a nice price. The product arrived in a short and timely fashion. However, the shipment packaging was very poor for an electronic audio product. The DAC was shipped in the very light product box, no otter box or padding, (not even a package envolope). The product was stuffed inside our mail box on a very rainy day and the light cardboard box flap was fully opened on one side, not taped and the box was damp from the rain. Not a way I would suggest shipping an electronic audio product.

Ce petit DAC est tout simplement extraordinaire !Il possède des qualités à l'écoute que nombreux de DAC bien plus chers n'ont pas.Mais attendons de voir les résultats que voudra bien nous communiquer ASR puisqu'ils font "la pluie et le beau temps" concernant les éventuelles options d'achat des utilisateurs...

Ich habe den nagelneuen SMSL PS200 an meinem PC mit Edifier MR4 und an meiner großen Anlage mit Wharfedale Lintons und einem WiiM Amp getestet. Um es vorwegzunehmen, dieser DAC bringt bei beiden Systemen eine enorme Verbesserung mit sich.Gerade die Lintons spielen auf einem so hohen Niveau, dass der Zuspieler eine ordentliche Basis für den Rest des Systems bieten sollte. Alles klingt etwas angenehmer/smoother und trotzdem detailreicher, als mit dem internen WiiM Amp Dac. Auch am PC mit den sehr guten Edifier MR4 bringt der SMSL PS200 eine deutliche Verbesserung zum Onboard DAC mit sich. Vor allem die Dynamik der Musik verbessert sich, durch einen extrem niedrigen noise floor. Ich finde den PS200 mit dem ESS ES9039Q2M Dac nochmal eine Verbesserung zum SMSL SU1 welcher auf einen AKM Dac basiert.TLDR: Dieser nagelneue Budget DAC von SMSL hat es in sich und bekommt von mir eine absolute Kaufempfehlung.Bin am überlegen, mir einen zweiten anzuschaffen, damit ich meine beiden Audio Systeme damit füttern kann :)

As for the DAC, it works as it should. Problem was with presentation and packaging. Item was clearly used as it was haphazardly put back into box, covered with fingerprints, and without any paperwork/instructions. Box was in rough shape and torn. My guess is that it was returned and someone at Amazon slapped on some tape and shipped it out again. Why I don’t have a problem purchasing used items, I paid new price for this so I expect a new unused item. This reflects bad on everyone….

It sounds incredibly good - very neutral and musical. It's down to the ESS9039Q2M DAC - a magical design. DSD works to 512, supports DXD. I've bought 3 now an d advised at least 10 other folks to buy one; everyone totally impressed.

I never write reviews, but this dac is impressive. When looking to improve the audio quality of the WiiM ProPlus and a pair of The Sevens, I gave this a shot and really didn't expect much considering the $90 cost.I couldn't have been more wrong. This little inexpensive box transformed the speakers from very good (at least to me) to a significantly improved experience.Give this a shot before spending much much more on a different streamer, external dac, or a more expensive set of speakers.
