You have to be careful when buying a bell that it doesn't have a tinny or otherwise unsatisfying sound.The sound from this bell is rich, deep, clear, and very, very loud. Not to mention, the sound of the bell has a pleasant quality to it.

The tone is about what I expected, but the clarity of the tone was surprisingly better than I anticipated.It does get the cat's attention.He's getting hard of hearing, so he no longer hears his self-serve food bowl advance his next meal (he gets fed a small amount every two hours). Now, if I notice he hasn't eaten his latest serving, I can ring the bell and he comes running!The only reason I've given it only 4 stars is that the top of the handle looks "unfinished" -- the nut that holds the clapper in place sets on the tip of the bell handle (and, in my humble opinion, would look much nicer if it were inset into the handle). Just my opinion, but, there you have it.

I was looking for something for children to play while caroling. This has a beautiful sound and looks like it’s in good quality. But I have to warn you. It’s a little loud for caroling.

This bell is a good value for the price. It’s solidly constructed and superbly crafted with thick brass so when shaken it resonates with a loud pure sound. The wood handle is of hard wood and solidly attached to the bell. I’m using this bell in an unusual way - I attached it to a bird feeder to alert me during the night when our local black bear comes for a nocturnal meal.

Just what I wanted and needed. If I have a child home ill from school and they have no cell phone (elementary) I needed a way for them to ring me while I'm working in a room or two away. (pun intended)This brass bell is perfect! One child will not talk if she has a sore throat, so this is the best solution. She just holds it away from her ears (yep, it's loud) and rings it and I come runnin'! She keeps this in her bed when sick and it gives her confidence that mommy is a few seconds away as soon as she needs me.The bell is quite well made. I think it is something to pass down in the generations. We got the smaller 3" size.

I've used a couple of much smaller bells in the past, but NONE have rung quite as well as this one. In fact, the resonance right out of the box was SHOCKINGLY good. Perhaps even better than any drum cymbal I've ever used. The sustain just goes on and on and on....In terms of volume, it's piercingly loud; although the pitch isn't quite as high as I was dreading, making it ideal for smaller areas. Obviously lower frequencies travel a lot farther so you'd need something a lot bigger if you wanted to get the attention of something miles away. However, I wouldn't be surprised if you could call someone (or something) from a massive distance with this thing. Honestly couldn't be happier with the sound quality.In terms of build, I feel like the handle could've been a bit thicker to accommodate either a bigger hand or a faster velocity; but it's still decently stiff and doesn't wobble at all. The finish on the brass is absolutely perfect both inside and out, and the pendulum that holds the clapper is just a series of rings so there's a lot of play, with very little resistance or dampening. Comes very well supported inside of a box too, so there's almost no chance of damage. Recommended!

Not sure what I want to do with this bell but I really like the way it looks.The sound is nice too so it will be a decoration piece.
