Why Test Your Home's Water Pressure?

Why Test Your Home's Water Pressure?

Having too much water pressure can be hard on all plumbing lines and fixtures and can even cause blowouts in flex lines or washing machine hoses, which in turn can flood the house.

Testing water pressure occasionally can catch a problem with the regulator before the high pressure can damage any plumbing.

What is the suitable range?

The pressure level can vary in most residential homes. Normal water pressure is generally between 40 and 60 PSI, most homeowners prefer something right in the middle around 50 psi. Water pressure should not be higher than 60 PSI.

Check the Pressure

4.Check the Pressure

Turn the faucet all the way, and then read the pressure on the gauge's dial. Typical home water pressure ranges from 40–50 psi and generally should not exceed 60 psi. Most standard pressure regulators have a maximum adjustment up to 75 psi. So if the reading on the pressure gauge is over 75 psi, then you know that the pressure regulator is not working correctly and will have to be repaired or replaced

How to test the water pressure?

Install the Pressure Gauge

1. Choose the location

Select an outdoor hose spigot closest to where the home's main water supply line enters the house.

2.Check for Running Water

To get an accurate reading when you test water pressure, make sure water isn’t being used anywhere inside or outside the house.

3.Install the Pressure Gauge

Screw the pressure gauge onto the faucet. There will be a rubber gasket inside the pressure gauge, and you should be able to simply hand-tighten the pressure gauge to get a good seal.

I used this to check the water pressure in my house. It's very easy to use. To use it, first, quickly pop the cap at the bottom to normalize the pressure, then replace and simply screw it onto an outside faucet and turn the water on. It doesn't leak and immediately gives you a reading. It'll fit a normal hose fitting. It works well and seemed accurate as I tested it on 2 faucets and got the same reading

I need to test the pressure of my house and some rental properties. This was a good price point for a liquid fill gauge works well and the knob is easy to install. I recommend testing your water pressure every few months.

All these months later, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. After only finding cheap crap in all the stores, I finally got online to seek out an oil-filled guage, and this was basically the only option at a realistic price... Well, it's well worth that price! It's heavy, made of dense, decent steel, and it's filled with a thick, perfectly clear oil.I've dropped it, tossed stuff on top of it in my bag, and the glass looks fine. The dial works great. I couldn't be happier with what I received, this is literally better than I was expecting.

This is one of those devices that you don’t know you need until you do. Due to some loud water flow in my pipes and high volumes of water coming out of my shower, I suspected that my water pressure regulator was going bad in my home. One of the easiest ways to tell if that is happening, other than a leak or drip from the regulator is to check your homes water pressure. I decided to grab this gauge as it was reasonably priced as compared to other brands. It seems like a solid, well-made gauge, with an easy-to-read PSI numbers displayed on the front. So, I checked my water pressure by connecting to a water hose spicket and woah, the PSI was 130, which meant my regulator had failed, as the normal reading should be in the 40 to 60 PSI range. I replaced my regulator and checked the pressure again, 50 PSI and the loud water flow sounds were gone. This gauge worked well for me and possibly saved my pipes from damage.4 stars

This looked to be good quality with glass front( not plastic) Stainless steel body and filled with a liquid (glycerine) that should minimize risk of water leaking in. It screws on to a hose fitting and when the tap is open , gives a pressure reading. The plumber who was there at the time thought it looked like a better one than he had. We were replacing an old and faulty pressure regulator and used it to reset water pressure which had been too high. It corresponded to the plumber's meter as well. I want it to be able to check other residents water pressure in our condo complex and to periodically recheck mine.
