I clicked on this knowing it was only a dome but didn't think to check the width. Its much wider than your typical mug or candle warmer. I'll still use it on my seeding mat, but it also dodnt trap heat very much or seem to make much of a difference. The main thing I would definitely take into consideration is thay there's no handle or knob at the top. You have to use both hands to lofe, which can be tricky over a wider jar.

Helps keep consistent starter dough temperature and also keep contaminants our of recipe. Fits perfectly on the standard popular heating plate and makes a touchy process a lot more manageable and predictable. Recommended.

This will be an absolute asset in my kitchen with my Sourdough set up and the ability to proof my starter regardless of the temperature in the house is a great thing. Didn't know that I needed this until I knew that I needed it. Now I have the luxury of consistency which is crucial.

First off: the reason for removing a star: The way the product was portrayed in pictures and in the headline to the product write-up, I expected this to come with a heater plate. It's only at the very end of the lengthy product description that it states that the heating pad is not included.That being said, the benefit I have found in using this glass dome is that my sourdough starter doesn't form a dried "crust" when I'm activating the starter. It does seem to hold the heat in, as well as humidity. And I love that it is easy to see how the activation process is going.I will get lots of use out of this.

I have recently discovered the world of sourdough bread baking and I've been collecting supplies to assist in making the best bread possible. I thought I had it all and I stumbled on this gem. I was pleasantly surprised at how thick this glass is. A really nice quality glass at a great price point!

I should read better. For some reason I thought it came with the heated pad. So, can only rate the dome.Dome is glass. Dome is thick glass. Dome appears to have multiple uses. Beauty and the Beast cosplay. Cover cheese. Cover a spider while you slide a piece of paper under to "help" it outside. Maybe a fun Indiana Jones reenactment? Or, if you have the heating part, great to cover your sourdough starter.The quality of the glass is great. Thick and strong. Height is good and it is large enough to cover a good size mason jar.
