These germinated but then didn’t grow from there. Disappointing considering the price tag compared to what I could have just purchased in the store.I grew many other things in the same garden bed but for whatever reason these didn’t take.

I started these in peat pots in a mini-greenhouse on February 9th along with the long, skinny variety. They were under grow lights until about late April (zone 6A here) and then brought outside. Interplanted with them are two green bean plants, so basically, eggplant, bean, eggplant, bean. The summers get hot here so the bean leaves do provide shelter. The beans also add nitrogen to the soil. Take your time growing these, don’t overthink or overplant; two plants should be plenty. These seeds are from 2020, and as of July 4, 2022, they are still viable. Like tomatoes, you need to pinch back the ‘suckers’ so the plants will focus on producing fruit instead of leaves. I haven’t done this yet, but you should use a bandana to act as a ‘cradle’ so the fruits don’t get tossed around too much.

These seeds are duds. They took far too long to germinate. And once they did, I only got one eggplant the entire season.
