The product I received doesn't look like the product pictures or the pictures on the manufacturer site. I asked the manufacturer, Bel-Art | SP Scienceware | HB Instruments, if it looked like a legit product but they failed to respond.Tested with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and it reads 101%. So 2% accuracy instead of the advertised 1%.

I bought this hydrometer to check the alcohol content of my diluted isopropyl alcohol (IPA). I had some 99% that I diluted to 60% - 70% for disinfectant. After I diluted it , I realized I didn't have a way to accurately check what the actual alcohol content was, so I bought this hydrometer. It arrived well-packed in its own box. Using it was a no-brainer: I rinsed it out, filled it with the test liquid, carefully put the hydrometer in, watch it bob up, and then read the percentage.I first tested it against a known sample - Everclear 90% grain alcohol, in this case. The reading was dead on.A couple of caveats:(1) You must have a hydrometer test jar to put the liquid and the hydrometer in! They're widely available on Amazon.(2) If you're testing IPA, be sure you get a gauge that goes high enough. A gauge for just beer/wine most likely won't go to 100%.(3) Be very careful working around this tall tube and the hydrometer. It'd be easy to bump one or the other and break it or knock it over.(4) Finally, be very careful working with IPA. Observe all safety precautions.Overall, this is a great item. I'm very, very happy with it.

If your eyesight is like mine, you have trouble reading tiny scales. This one is easy to read (though the scale is not huge). Better than my old one. The accuracy agrees with my old hydrometer, so no problem there.
