If you don't assemble this bread slicer the right way, it will be clumsy, clunky, and wobbly to use. That said, this bread slicer is surprisingly sturdy once it is assembled the right way. It's not hard to do, but the pictures showing the proper orientation are very small - use a magnifying glass if necessary. A bread crumb catching mat is included - a nice touch. One of the reasons I chose this model is because it is foldable and easily stored when not needed. It's made of stainless steel so it will last a lifetime.

This slicer uses top-quality stainless steel and is very heavy and sturdy. It folds completely flat for easy storage. It works fairly well as a guide for slicing loaves of all different widths (completely adjustable) up to the maximum length of the unit. It is also very easy to clean. It comes with a silicone tray you can put under it for crumbs, but it really isn't necessary as it has 4 rubber feet that it rests on anyway. You can always just wipe the crumbs off the counter afterward if you don't use the silicone tray.

Overall, this is a pretty decent break slicer. It's fairly easy to figure out how it works just from fiddling with it for a moment, and once you know what you're doing it holds its shape decently well. However, my biggest gripe, is that it doesn't have a way to lock the size without the slide-in attachment to hold it in place. It seems like a strange design that does essentially lock you into size options in increments of each slice area.

This stainless steel bread slicing guide is what I’ve been looking for. I was tired of getting bamboo shavings in my bread, using a wooden one. The plastic slicing guides aren’t much better. I have a nice long bread knife that I didn’t want to ruin. This metal slicer is very durable, and allows for easy slicing of your bread. It feels more like a commercial tool that you would find in bakeries. It’s a smaller sized slicer, rather than the big machines that bakeries used to use.I am waiting for the Pullman pan to come to make sandwich sized loafs. Between the pan, and this slicer guide, I expect this will last me a long time.Happy baking!

This seemed like a good idea, as I frequently buy bread in need of slicing. But I had multiple problems with this slicer. The first problem was that even with the slicer tightly against the sides of the bread, the tip my standard bread knife kept slipping out of the slicing groove. Also, the sides were very shaky and would not stay up. In order to get the slicer to work at all I had to grip both the bread and the two sides of slicer with one hand while I held the knife with the other. I soon gave up. In fairness to the product, the description states that it is designed for using with home baked bread. Perhaps, it would work better with a softer loaf, but my home baked bread tends to be hearty.
