The stairs leading from our living room to our 2nd floor are bare wood with a shallow depth. It is easy to slip going up and down these stairs. So we decided to try these non-slip stair 'runners' (I will mention later why I placed 'runners' in quotation marks). The pattern we chose for our stairs is the 'Black" pattern.First, the Good:The pads were easy to install. My wife, followed me up the stairs, one step at a time, handing me a pad to install after she removed the plastic liner. We completed 12 stairs in about 15 minutes. The pads help quite a bit when navigating stairs. You are less likely (or even almost impossible) to slip off a stair. They also muffle the sound of walking on old wooden stairs. Walking on the stairs used to echo across most of the first flood; but thankfully not now.We ordered a box of 15 pads even though we only have 12 steps to cover. This gave us three pads left over, just in case we need to replace some in the future. Also, if you need to temporarily remove a couple of pads so that you can wash them, you will need the roll of double-sided adhesive tape that is packed in the box. Now, the Not so Good:On the seller's Amazon store page, the caption states ""Stair Treads Non Slip Steps - Wooden Stair Runner..." I believe the term 'runner' is incorrectly applied to this product and it could be misleading, even though pictures clearly show that these pads are clearly not a 'runner'. That's because of the definition of a 'runner' -- "A stair carpet is a linear carpet or rug, that runs up/down on interior staircases usually, and occasionally on exterior stairways." This product is clearly not a linear carpet.Vacuuming the stairs is now more difficult because the carpet does not fully cover the width and depth of each stair. I find that I have to clean the carpet by running the vacuum sideways along the width of the pad. Which also makes it difficult to clean the area of each stair that is not carpeted. Also, the height and density of the pattern make it difficult to vacuum away all the dust and dirt because of the flat portion of the pad in-between the raised patterns. In my opinion, individual stair pads don't look as good as a continuous runner, especially custom-fit runners that cover the entire stair.Summary:I gave this product four stars, in spite of the list of cons below. That's because these stair pads really do work, though they may not be for everyone. If I was simply going by the list of pros vs. cons, then this would be a 3-star product. I also recommend not vacuuming the pads until they have had at least 24 hours after installing them to ensure that the pads are really adhered properly.Pros:a) Easy to install.b) Less likely to slip when traversing the stairs.c) Muffles the sound of walking on old wooden stairs.d) A box of 15 pads will proudly give you two or three spares in case you need to replace any.e) Pads can be removed for washing and a roll of double-sided tape is provided to reattach the pads.Cons:a) The headline on the seller's Amazon store page uses the term 'runners' incorrectly, in a somewhat misleading way.b) Difficult to vacuum stairs that don't cover the full width and depth of each stair.c) Difficult to vacuum due to carpet pattern height on a flat surface that can gather dirt and dust.d) Doesn't look as good as a true stair runner.

Included:15-each 30" x 8" Carpeted Anti-Slip Stair Mats1-roll of doubled sided tapeInstructions Included:NO. But, the listing has pretty good pictured instructions. Did not see anything about the double sided tape, however, I assume it would be if the mats needed it for a particular surface or after washing them.Pros:-Great size, shape and aesthetics-Definitely quiets stepsCons:-None by itself noted, see Pros/Cons Section below.Pros/Cons (Items with both Pros/Cons):-Carpet is softer than expected: This is nice on feet and still seemed to provide anti-slip in dry conditions, but could pose a slip hazard still in wet conditions; this condition was not tested.-Adhesion isn't as strong as you might think: This should be great for removal for wash, however, I noticed some of the mat did not lay flat (bubbled in the middle) likely due to the fact that it was shipped folded over and lack of stronger adhesion. This may correct itself over time. I do want to point out that the mat definitely held in place while using it, and did not slide.Review Notes:Works great, probably better for a more finished step coming say from a second story, rather than a lead into the basement (as I used them for). The mats are true mats, they are not a cover, and the stick on the bottom is not nearly as adhesive as I thought (bubbled in some small areas), but did hold for foot traffic. I do think it will come off easy to wash. The carpet is soft and definitely dampens noise, so people with pets, hard soled shoes and kids may notice a difference with that, but as I said, the softness makes me concerned it may be somewhat slick if you are walking on them with wet shoes; most people may not be doing this.Buy Again:Yes I would, if I needed it for a different type of stairs, but for where I currently live, this will probably be perfect for the time being.Required Equipment/Items used in my Testing (Not Included):-Cleaning product that is streak/residue free and cannot hurt finishes if you are worried about that. Do not use pledge or wax spraying products to prepare surface as this will lessen the effects of the adhesion, and all around not a good idea on a step.Functions Not Tested/Limited Testing:-Did not test the remove/wash feature of this product, although I would believe it to work fine for that. The thing I would be most interested in, is how well it would stick after the wash.

while these stair covers do indeed *grip* the stairs, they lack proper adhesive to actually attach permanently

These stick-on treads transformed our feeling of security on our hardwood stairs. Since falls at home are the #1 injury, and we have grandkids going up and down the stairs, I feel these are a great investment.I created a corner template from cardboard, as you can see in the photos, to ensure consistent placement as I worked my way up the stairs. All 15 were applied within 10 minutes. These treads have a pattern on them that is different when turned 180 degrees, so during installation, be sure to have them pointing the same direction if that matters to you. You peel off the backing on them, then lay/press them into place. They have the perfect amount of adhesion. Be sure to wipe and clean the stair tread before application. Each package comes with 15 treads; we have 16 on our stairs, so we didn't put one on the top stair. I'd love to be able to buy one more single tread to complete the look. They are durable--we have been using them for two weeks now, with no lifting or peeling away from the stairs.
