  • HIGH PERFORMANCE: USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 PCIe Add-On card supports Multiple INs, maintains max bandwidth even when mixed speed devices are connected; 10Gbps per port; 1x USB-A & 1x USB-C | Upgraded version of our popular card PEXUSB311AC2
  • POWER: Expansion card w/ SATA power supplies supplemental power to the USB ports (when motherboard power is insufficient) providing up to 5V 3A/15W via the USB-C port & 5V 0.9A/4.5W via the USB-A port
  • MAX PERFORMANCE WITH USB DEVICES: 2-port USB-A & USB-C PCIe card adapter supports USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP) optimizing USB performance w/ external storage devices like SSDs, HDDs, NVMe drives
  • COMPATIBILITY: Installs in full or low-profile PCIe 3.0 x4 desktop/server slot (lower performance w/PCI-e 2.0); Windows/Linux/macOS auto driver install (Windows 8 & up); Works with USB 3.2/3.1/3.0/2.0

This USB 3.1 Gen 2 card lets you add one USB-C™ port and one USB-A port to your computer, through a PCI Express slot. It enables you to upgrade your current system by adding two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports to your computer and giving you access to data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps per port. USB 3.1 Gen 2 (also known as USB 3.2 Gen 2x1) PCIe Add-On card supports Multiple INs, maintains optimal bandwidth even when mixed speed devices are connected.

Plus, by adding one USB-C and one USB-A port to your PC, you can easily connect legacy, modern, and future USB devices, regardless of the USB connector type.

USB 3.1 Gen 2 Performance

By adding 10Gbps USB ports to your computer, you can harness the speed of USB 3.1 Gen 2 and rest assured you're ready for both current and future high-bandwidth USB-A and USB-C devices.

With higher data throughput support, this USB 3.1 PCIe card is a necessity for external drives, drive enclosures, and many other USB 3.1 peripherals. Plus, the expansion card with SATA power enables supplemental power to the USB ports (when motherboard power is insufficient) providing up to 5V 3A/15W via the USB-C port and 5V 0.9A/4.5W via the USB-A port. The card is ideal for use with high performance external storage solutions.

Compatible with Older USB Devices

Connecting older peripherals isn't a problem. This versatile dual-port USB 3.1 card is backward compatible with legacy USB 3.0/2.0 devices that use the common USB Type-A port, so you can eliminate the added expense and aggravation of purchasing new devices. You can also connect older devices on the USB Type-C™ port using a variety of USB-C cables and adapters.

Easy Installation

The USB 3.1 card is compatible with a broad range of Windows®, macOS and Linux® operating systems. Plus, the high-quality card includes both standard-profile and low-profile brackets, making it easy to install in full or small form-factor PCs and servers.

Faster Transfer Speeds with UASP

The card supports USB data transfer speeds of 10Gbps. But, you can experience transfer speeds up to 70% faster than conventional USB, when connected to a computer that also supports UASP. With UASP you can utilize the full potential of a SATA III SSD or HDD. UASP is supported in Windows® 8, macOS (10.8 or above), and Linux®.

In testing, UASP performs with a 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed over traditional USB 3.1 Gen 2 at peak performance.

At the same peak in testing, UASP also shows an 80% reduction in required processor resources.

The PEXUSB311AC3 is backed by a StarTech.

I bought this expensive device to use with a Google Coral TPU. It doesn't work. The bus resets constantly and never connects to the Coral. The Coral works in other USB ports. Technical support has been all but useless. It takes them days to respond, then more days after the conversation has started. They have given me useless "busy work" assignments, such as send them output from lspci "to make sure it recognizes the device" when it is already clear that the system recognizes the device; otherwise there couldn't be resets in the logs that I have already sent them. It's going back.

I have an LGA1151 MB which I use for my streaming pc. The pc was lacking USB C connection, so I purchased this expansion card. I connected a very standard sata power cable to the card without using any sort of after market extension. Upon the first start, unbelievable amounts of smoke started coming out of the card and the connector! I do not recommend this card. I am hoping the PC survives this…

Works as described, but I found that to power some external SSD housings I needed to connect a SATA power cable to it, so I would factor that in from the start.

FIRST, there are SATA *data* cables, then there are SATA *POWER* cables. You need the SATA POWER cable. The info on adding the optional SATA Power cable is a bit lacking. Problem is, the cable will not be the same for everyone. The end of the SATA power cable that plugs into the StarTech PCB is standard. What's NOT standard is the other end of the cable. Depending on your computer, it may be a 6-pin in-line connector, or a square 4-pin connector (like on my Lenovo P620), which provides 3.3V, 5V and 12V. And maybe there are other types of connectors I'm not familiar with. Also, your computer may have come with a spare SATA power cable laying inside your computer, making this easy, but maybe NOT. In which case you will have to buy one. And then, you will have to make sure you get the correct cable that has the proper connector that works with your particular computer. Attached photo shows my StarTech PCIe card hooked up to the proper SATA power cable. Haha, good luck figuring this out. In my case, it took a post to the Lenovo forums for advice. After installing the card, I then measured the USB output current using a USB meter. I used an iPad that needed charging. I measure about 2A with the SATA power cable plugged in, AND unplugged from the StarTech card. Was there no improvement because my particular PCIe slots provide adequate power anyway? In the end, how do I really know the benefit from using the SATA power cable? I will just have to leave all this as a hanging unanswered question.

If you are looking to add a card to your PC to run a Quest 2 via the DirectLink cable. (I'm looking at you iRacing racers) I can confirm that this card is plug and play and with power from the power unit to the card with a SATA cable it charged, or at least maintained, while racing. I can also confirm that the Quest 2 is recognized as USB 3 in the Oculas App. After install I raced for about 30 minutes with my Quest 2 fresh off the charger and at 100% battery. After racing I as still at 100%.

I was having issues with my camlink 4.0 on my PC. Video kept freezing. Did lots of research and eventually just realized I needed a dedicated high speed USB port. Got this. Never had a problem since.

Added this card into my HP Elitedesk i7 6700 SFF desktop to provide USB 3.2 connectivity. Perfect for USB-A AND USB-C devices such as Nvme externals or Samsung T7s running at 1050Mb/s. Anything lower in speed still prefect such as USB SSDs at 560MB/s. Additionally I added a GTX 1650 NVIDIA a year ago and this PC flies with a 1TB boot drive. Loving the card !!
