Works better than expected. I purchased this to use an old 2TB external drive. It has a USB2 port and an esata port. This cable adapter plugged into a USB3 computer port was 3.5 times faster read and write speeds compared to using the USB2 port. Well worth the money.

Works as it is supposed to. Saved me when my remote hard drive was knocked over and I needed to use this connection.

I wanted to keep using my fast eSATA backup drive with a newer computer without an eSATA output port. This well designed device does the job perfectly without losing the speed I was used to. I always keep this adapter cable plugged into a rear USB 3.0 port and plug it into my external drive every time I need to perform a clone or backup. The only caveat here is to disconnect it from the backup drive after each session. Otherwise I find that Windows will not recognize it by simply turning on its power. The best procedure is to power on the external unit first before plugging in this cable - which works perfectly each time! A slight inconvenience, but not enough to downgrade my rating! This cable interface always shows up as an ASMT 2115 USB removable device under Win 10 "Disk Management", so it is best to leave it activated, rather than to "safely remove it". Works "like a charm"!

I'm so glad I found this. My old PC recently started getting BSODs. I had my local PC repair shop build me an new (old) maching using a vintage PC similar to my old one so I could eliminate the motherboard, etc., for the cause of the Blue Screens. My operating system and all my apps, settings, etc., were transferred to the new/old machine and it works fine. The only problem was the new/old machine didn't have SATA ports. It only has USB ports. I back up images and files on three external hard drives. The main one has both SATA and USB-B connectors. I tried connecting that drive to the PC using a USB cable but it didn't work. I diagnosed that the female USB-B (3.0) port had messed up connection pins. I thought I was going to have to buy a new hard drive to replace my existing one which is my main 4TB external hard drive. I searched for a solution. I found a PC technical PC website where someone asked if it was possible to connect a SATA external device to a PC with only USB ports. The technician said it was impossible because the two systems have completely different protocols. So I started looking for a replacement drive. I also searched computer parts websites with no luck. Then I happen to run into a video that seemed to show what was a eSata to USB-C cable. So I looked some more and was surprised to find this on Amazon. There are several other much cheaper similar cables on Amazon but their descriptions didn't seem to make it clear that they would actually work for my situation. But this one clearly said that it would accomplish what I needed and it also has a box in the cable that I thought might translate between SATA and USB protocols. I'm probably wrong about this and PC experts are probably laughing. I'm just a user with a moderate technical understanding of the technology. Anyway, I ordered this and I was almost hesitant to plug it in to see if it works. And to my delight, it works! As a matter of fact, I'm doing an image backup using this cable as I write this review. I wouldn't have minded buying a replacement external drive but I was getting a headache reading all the reviews, most of which had horror stories about the drives failing, etc.Bottom line: I'm back in business thanks to this cable. Apparently, that "expert" who said it was impossible to transfer data between SATA and USB ports was wrong after all.

Works perfectly to adapt old LaCie 2TB external quadra drive to 2017 iMac for speedier data connection. The USB on the Lacie wasn't connecting reliably, but eSATA works great & much faster data read/write.Works fine with Time Machine on the iMac running Monterey.

Update as of 3/6/17...Of course, I missed my chance to return the product. I have been busy.I just finished chatting with Startech.com. My enclosure is a different brand, but the concept is still true.Turns out... The age of my 4 bay enclosure has nothing to do with it. This cable is designed to work with only single enclosures. You would need a port multiplier if you have multiple hard drives that you are trying to connect. For now, being able to access a single drive at a time is okay, but at some point, I am going to buy a new enclosure and I am going with USB and one that is less noisy.Sooooo... I read alot of reviews and I am pissed at me and everyone as that little important detail would have been nice to mention. lol... Meaning that the cable does not work with 4 bay enclosures.Anywayz....The below, you can read at your leisure.I updated the stars from 1 to 3.Pros:1. Works great for single enclosure. (Note: Make sure that you are connected to a 3.0 port.) I can access one drive of my 4 bay enclosure with no problems.Cons:1. It works with only 1 drive and no one mentions that. Clearly, I do not know alot about technology as I guess everyone took that for granted._______________________I might update this star later, but for now I am outright disappointed. I think it is my fault so you may still buy this item and it may work for you.The reason it might be my fault. I own an older and likely one of the first Startech 4 bay enclosures. I love this thing! It has saved my hide more times than I can count.Well... I initially I was having problems with my eSata cable so I bought a new eSata cable and it worked for awhile, but it never fails that at some point I have to wiggle the cable to get the computer and the enclosure to work.Sooooo I bought this cable thinking it would fix my problem. It only kinda recognizes intermittently one drive. I have tried swapping the drives. Replugging everything. Verifying that I have the latest drivers as well as verifying that I plugged into a 3.0 usb port and so far.... No luck...I was soooo excited about this product thinking that I would be able to connect my enclosure and I would have access like before on the eSata cables and so far no dice....Oh... so what does the above have to do with you? lol...Be sure to check your enclosure, the age of the enclosure, the drivers, and all cables before buying this cable as it may or may not fix your problem. For me, it was worth the risk as my current eSatas were failing anyway. When I have more time to work on this item, maybe I will be able to fix the problem and can update this review.
