About this item

  • Frees up a PCIe slot by consolidating 3x USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) & 1x Gigabit Ethernet ports into a single card
  • Provides installation flexability for standard and low-profile computers, with a dual-profile design
  • Lets you save money and connect your existing devices with USB 2.0 and 1.x backward compatibility
  • Perfect for high-powered USB devices, with optional SATA power providing up to 900mA per port
  • PCIe x1 interface, compliant with PCI Express 2.0 specifications

This PCIe USB 3.2 Gen 1 card couples your peripheral and network connections into a single, scalable solution. By combining three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and one RJ45 port onto a single card, you only need a single PCIe slot for installation, which lets you free up space for other add-ons or upgrades and get more out of your desktop or server. Combo-card convenience and cost-savings If you have separate cards for your USB and network connections, this versatile card overcomes the aggravation of running out of PCIe slots while helping to reduce clutter inside your PC. This dual-purpose card is perfect for building or upgrading your computer. It helps you save money by avoiding the additional costs of purchasing separate USB 3.2 Gen 1 and Gigabit Ethernet adapters. Flexible install options and legacy device support You can rest assured this card will fit in your small form-factor system, if needed. It features a dual-profile design that makes it easy to install in either standard or low-profile cases. The combo card makes it easy to connect peripherals such as your external hard drives or mobile devices. Plus, it’s backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.x, so you won’t have to replace all of your existing USB devices. Gigabit connectivity and network management Functioning as a network adapter, the card delivers wired network access in locations where Wi-Fi is unavailable or unreliable. Support for advanced features such as jumbo frames and VLAN tagging means you can optimize network traffic as needed. Effective USB 3.2 Gen 1 performance enhanced by UASP This high-performance SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 adapter card supports data transfer rates up to 5 Gbps and is enhanced with UASP support, which can perform ~70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed over traditional USB 3.2 Gen 1, when paired with a UASP-enabled enclosure. The PEXUSB3S3GE is backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

The Good: It works (mostly)The Bad: Ethernet is actually a USB based solution. IE, the Ethernet capability is equivalent to plugging an Ethernet to USB dongle into a USB receptacle. This can cause some odd issues with WindowsThe Ugly: The Ethernet functionality seems to 'go away' occasionally with for no reason. It does function again after a few minutes. But having a hardware device that disappears (err, 'goes missing', for those who prefer the British vernacular) is not productive.Solution?: Get a similar device with a real network transceiver like the Siig LB-US0614-S1. Oh and it's $20 less and also available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-Express-Adapt-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B07QNMLBR6). Also keep in mind, this is a 'generic' card that is re-branded by Siig and is available from other outlets as well.

I have a 13 year old Gateway computer with USB 2.0 ports, and I wanted to upgrade to the USB 3.0 service. I read enough info to make an attempt at installing this Star Tech unit, and I was thrilled that it worked immediately after the install. My Internet download speed increased from +/- '260 Mbps' up to +/- '460 Mbps' .. (with upload speed '12 Mbps' .. no change). I have checked my speed frequently, and it is consistently above at least '440 Mbps'. This is a great product at a great buy !

If you have limited pci-e ports, this is a perfect way to free one up. I only wish it had 4 usb ports along with the ethernet, but otherwise I'm totally satisfied. StarTec is a solid brand.

Could not install in Dell Precision T5500 with the chassis bracket attached to card. With bracket removed, could insert card and it did work to provide Ethernet, but too loose in PCI socket to trust it.

My computer's built-in network connection was failing; I had an external 4-port USB hanging off the back of the computer; this was a perfect choice for me.The Amazon price beat Office Depot by $10.00, so I went with Amazon.Physical installation was easy enough. I had a SATA power connector available so connected it. PRO TIP: The way the ports face, up and down, not sideways, means that it is possible to misalign the card so the connectors don't quite fit. I had to open my case, adjust the card slightly, attach a cable, and then tighten the screw. Avoid the extra step by attaching a cable or USB drive as you install the card to get the right alignment the first time. Here is where it got interesting, but not an issue. This may be related to the fact that I run two computers and two monitors through a Dual Link KVMP switch. When I turned my computer back on, I was not sure it was booting up because neither monitor was working. I could hear the computer working, so I just sat on my hands for about 2 minutes, which felt like 20. After two minutes, the computer rebooted itself, the monitors came on and I could see that the KVMP switch was being installed. Everything has been working since then. I have had the card for about a week and it's working great.

This is a really excellent card. I replaced an Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter card that only provided a single RJ-45 port with the StarTech because I needed powered USB 3.0 ports in order to get a new monitor with accompanying soundbar working. The card is powered using a SATA cable. It provides power to the card, which in turn powers the USB 3.0 ports up to 900mA per port.I connected my monitor to one of the USB 3.0 ports using an uplink cable in order to power all of the USB ports on the monitor. The soundbar is connected to one of the monitor's USB 3.0 ports. An HDMI connection from my video card to the monitor provides both audio and video. The soundbar is my default audio device, which works great with this setup.I also bought a 1 TB Western Digital USB 3.0 external drive that I connect to the StarTech card as well and it works great. Having both USB 3.0 ports that are fully powered along with an RJ-45 port for Ethernet all on one card is definitely convenient. My computer, a Dell Dimension E510, is running Windows 7 Home Premium so it didn't install drivers automatically via plug and play. I didn't bother with the drivers that came with the card. I instead downloaded the latest drivers from StarTech's web site. I installed the USB 3.0 driver first, then the Ethernet driver. As soon as the drivers were installed everything worked. No rebooting required. The only caveat is with the orientation of the USB 3.0 ports. When the card is installed, the USB ports are vertically oriented. So USB plugs don't fully insert into the ports because they bump into the metal frame surrounding the PCI card's bracket. Everything works fine. It's just something to be aware of. If the ports were oriented horizontally, this wouldn't be an issue, but then there probably wouldn't be room for three USB ports.

This is a great PCI 1x card having both Gigabit and 3 usb 3.0 ports all in one card. Problem comes in at installing drivers. Instruction manual doesn't give you any clue as to what chip set drivers you are using (apparently their are 2 different drivers for both the NIC and USB). So you end up having to play a guessing game as to what is what. Not a deal breaker but annoying to say the least.
