This card does not appear to work with Linux. I can get one external HD to be recognized briefly, but certainly not plug and play. So far I have only tried this on a Debian 12 system with kernel 6.1.0-31, running on an Asustek TUF GAMING X570-PLUS motherboard. After running into this issue, the most detail I could find was in the Product Description, which says " Linux 2.6.31 to 4.11.x LTS Versions only". So...maybe some older versions of Ubuntu? But no drivers were/ are provided. That's a pretty limited range of compatibility to generally claim "Linux" elsewhere on the product page. I've been purchasing StarTech hardware for years (off and on), this is the first dud.

I bought this November 2nd, 2023 and it was functioning perfectly (as far as knew) on my Win11 Pro machine until this last year. My external backup drive and game controller that was plugged into it started acting funky, so I opened up Device Manager and did some investigation.I'd found + sporadically received these error messages:"Error Code 43 - USB Device Not Recognized""USB Device not recognized""USB3.0 monitor is already started"That last one confused the heck out of me because I don't have a USB monitor (Seriously, WTF?!).I've tried various suggested "fixes" online, and each one was a no-go. I also downloaded & ran that garbage 1990's era lookin' "[VIA_VLI VL805] Windows USB 3.0 Controller Card" executable from StarTech's website but had to manually remove everything, even from the registry because I'd receive a failure message every time I'd run its uninstall app.Sorry but you're getting 1 star from me. I'm shocked this StarTech product hit the dirt so fast :

I installed card into my computer it had power but did not work 100%. To test the card I plugged in my mouse. The RGB light worked on my mouse and I was able to move the pointer around but the buttons didn't work. I pugged in the keyboard the same thing. The keyboard lit up and I could not type. I went to support and could not find my issue. The card was recognized by my computer but didn't work properly. I struck out twice now with Star Tech products. The first USB card I purchased and returned wouldn't let my pc power down or sleep. My computer shut down correctly after I removed it.

Like all the StarTech products that I've used, it is well made, and does exactly what it is advertised to do.

I tried 2 other brands. Both other brands used the same drivers for windows 11 and both other brands kept randomly disconnecting. The PC had to be restarted to enable use of the other guy's card/USB's. This one has its own drivers on disc and has been working flawlessly. It also fit the PCIe slot better than the others. Glad I finally got one that worked with my new PC. Thanks StarTech.com!

I bought this because the motherboard USB ports on my Dell XPS died, and not waiting to give Dell any more money for an out of warranty repair, I decided to give this expansion card a try. It works great, easy enough to install, and most importantly I don’t have to pay Dell to fix it

I needed a faster means of doing backups, as the Dell R710 only has USB 2.0 ports. Adding this card doesn't get you screaming fast performance, but it runs at the max rate specified by my Costco Seagate USB 3.0 backup drive. The published max transfer rate is 180 MB/sec. I was getting about 50 MB/sec with the USB 2.0 ports. On a Dell R710 running Ubuntu Server 16.04, its pretty much plug and play. Turn the machine off, install the card and power up. A quick "lsusb" showed there was a USB 3.0 hub. You better have your Seagate external drive already formatted and have a file system on it. If you don't you will have USB hub errors and won't be able to get out of the error loop. Plug the Seagate into a USB 2.0 port, initialize it, put a file system on it , mount it and do a media test. Then "umount" the drive, unplug it and plug it into the USB 3.0 card. If you still get errors you'll have to power down the server, power down the drive and start up from scratch. What a pain. Things we do to cut down on backup times. :-)10/21/18 Edit: I changed the rating to 5 stars. Things have been running very well at 100% and I've had no problems. The more I work with this card, the more I found my initial issues were my issues, not the card.If two USB 3.0 drives are on the same card I was getting 175 MB/sec transfer rates.04/117/19 Update: After a Dell bios update, I started to have problems. On boot the R710 would get into a continuous loop of some type of usb bus error and then the boot process would say removing power from bus. 10 seconds later, the same message would come up. The only solution would be to unplug the Seagate external drive and then plug it back in after the boot process is complete. This is not good if you want an unattended reboot.I fixed it by looking for a used Dell pci express usb 3.0 card (0YJ94F).I'm still leaving this a 5 star rating because the card works perfectly in my desktop PC.

Bought this to add usb 3.0 to an older pc, that has been upgrade to Windows 10.The card was easy to install and works fine.Windows 10 auto installed the recommended driver for it. It worked great and the speed increase was awesome. However, after the pc went to sleep mode. I noticed when it was woken back up. The card was showing to be disabled due to a programming error.I could uninstall the software and restart the pc. It would auto reinstall and work fine until you let it go to sleep. Then it would disable the card every time. After many times of this and a lot of troubleshooting. I found the only software for the card that was error free. Is the one that comes ons the CD with this device. You can also go to the website for the latest driver. The speed was the same from both, so it is a nice add on either way.I do recommend you install the attachable power cable to this. To bring it up to its full functions.

Great item - works well in my little acer PC running Windows10. Found on first boot and Windows sorted everything out - just the way hardware and software should be.Can't comment on performance, but all ports work and it looks like a quality card.Had this in my machine for a month or two and no problems so far.
