I'm actually using this for a bowl-back mandolin with a headstock that won't allow for a neck hanger. Having the two support pieces separate allowed me to position them just how I needed them.While my mandolin is lighter than a guitar, everything seems sturdy enough that I would have no reservations using it for one, especially an acoustic or classical.
