The mold and templates work perfectly and make for adorable onigiri. Very worth the purchase!

Maybe I was just bad at it, but I couldn’t get the penguins to look good, and it took me a while, still not used to it. It was a fun thing to do but became very frustrating. It was pretty easily to clean and the quality was good enough for the price

I love this onigiri set! There is a little learning curve, but by the fourth one I felt I had a penguin suitable enough for my daughter's lunch box.The packaging unfolds to provide step by step picture directions. When unpacking I thought the mold seemed slightly flimsy, but after using it, I found it worked well, and I am no longer concerned about it breaking easily. The cutters actually work, but you have to press quite hard. After some trial and error, I stacked the little silicone mat on top of a plastic cutting board. I pressed down until I heard the crunch of the nori being cut. Then I continued to press hard over each section until I could no longer hear the crunching noise. That usually got the shapes cut out well enough. If it didn't, I was able to punch the pieces out carefully and use my kitchen shears to help any areas that were more difficult. You can see the scoring in the nori.I think the penguins come out better if you get the mold stuffed really full with rice. Pack it in. I also dampened the mold with a bit of water to help the rice come out. I smoothed out the seam with a damp finger while the rice was still in the top half of the mold.Once I made the penguin shape with enough rice, I didn't struggle so much with placing the cut-outs correctly.I recommend cutting all the nori you will need first, then working quickly with the warm rice to get your penguins shaped, then add the cut-outs to all of your penguins. You could also do it assembly line style with one or two other people.I took one star off because I would have liked to not have to press so hard on the cutters, but I am still very pleased with this purchase, and would recommend it.I have included a picture of my first four penguins.

I purchased the Penguin and the Dog Molds together. The molds work fine in shaping the rice balls. But the real trick is cutting the Nori (seaweed) into the eyes, nose, ears, mouth. That part is really really hard. The mold to cut the Nori is plastic with serrated teeth (not super sharp). You place the Nori on a small rubber mat. Then you press down the cutting mold. With enough pressure, you hear the nori being cut. But unless you have 'Mega' strength, the mold only partially cuts the Nori seaweed. So it's not perfect at the first round of trying this out. I'm trying to figure out if I need an industrial press strength to cut the pieces. Remember that the mouth, nose, ears and other parts are very hard to see. I tried to 'punch' out the cut pieces. But that didn't work so well as it's a) hard to see an eyebrow piece; b) the poking pierces the Nori and the cut out part doesn't come out right. So, there's a huge learning curve on cutting the Nori that I have yet to master. Good luck. I'll keep trying.. . .

Purchased for my daughter to try her hand in making sushi. Cute penguin, but directions are in Chinese, hopefully it will be easy.

I am very happy with this purchase. My first time using it, I made three adorable penguins. There is a short learning curve, but after my first penguin, I had it down. I was surprised how well it cut out the small feet and eye pieces. Sometimes, I use too much rice (extra thick penguin), or I rush the details and a penguin will turn out "different". The kids and I love those penguins even more. “Good tools are half the work,” the other half is effort, so results will vary.

Good quality materials..haven't got a chance to actually make the sushi yet because this was a Christmas gift but we're going to pull it out tonight. All the pieces are sturdy and they're not cheaply made. Looking forward to making fun sushi
