After much trouble shooting, I determined that the manifold bypass valve and manifold thermostat needed replacing. There's some good videos on YouTube. I would consider myself pretty handy and thankfully the manifold was easily removed and disassembled. The Pentair heater is seven years old. I found quite a bit of debris inside. The job took about 30 minutes. There's not too many ways to mess up the re-assembly, but as always I took lots of pics as I opened it up. For about $50, I got the heater up and running again. While I was at it, I also replaced the 3/4" zinc manifold drain plug (under certain conditions corrosion can occur). I'm sure the pool guys would have charged me over $500 for the same repair.

If your looking at this product, your a pool owner and know how expensive pool repair is. So I took on the project myself and came out with a W. You can too it was maybe a 2 out of 5 in difficulty. If your heater is running but cycles on and off, especially as the spa heats up this could be the issue. I was trying to heat my spa and it would heat for a minuet (longer at first then progressively sooner as the water got warmer) then turn off.Hold down the spa button until the temp is displayed while running the heater, pay attention to how hot the water gets, it my case it was 300+, that's too hot and it cycles off for safety. Turn off the unit and work on it when it's cool, turn off the gas at the valve, duckduckgo videos on how to change it. Earn the admiration of your family and receive a whole punch on your man card.Reminders* Shut off your pool equipment, preferably at the circuit breaker so nothing turns on while your working.* Only work on the heater when It's cool to touch.* Try the easier fixes first. i.e. Thermal Regulator, high limit switch. still fairly cheap and worth a go. worst case you have spare parts for the future.* have good lighting so you can see what your doing* Take photos before you take things apart and remove wires so you can put things back together.
