I work as an industrial electrician and often work with instrumentation. Though this signal generator isn't a NIST-calibrated process meter, I can still use it for point-to-point "loop shooting" with 24V power and 4-20 testing; however, for the checksheet to go on record I'm still using an Emerson Trex and Fluke 789. This meter works perfectly for the price and I'm really enjoying it. My only recommendation is to get a set of quality test leads and alligator clips as the included set is garbage. I still give it 5 stars because the meter and its functionality are more important.

I expected a signal generator in this price range to be flaky but so far this unit has been solid and has been more accurate than I expected by a long shot. I finally compared this unit to my Fluke meter and the results surprised me. There was a consistent 0.01 unit difference for both mA and Volts, with the Fluke always being 1/100th unit lower than the signal generator. That was true for the signal generator operating in source or meter mode. Based on that I have confidence in this unit being accurate enough for my purposes. I haven't tried the thermocouple measurement yet but hope to do so soon.

Handy little unit that has some great features for the price point. The thermocouple reading takes a moment to settle but seems rather accurate. The backlight on this is fantastic. It's not just a couple of edge mounted LEDs that only light up the end digits. It fully backs up all the characters evenly. The continuity function is the fastest I've ever seen on a handheld, but I think it's because you're not waiting for the resistance reading. Either way it makes it easy to catch an instance of a switch momentarily closing. The only complaint I have is that it's a pretty light weight unit. Which means that having it sit up on the stand makes it is easy to tip when moving the leads around or pressing buttons. Then again light weight also makes it easy to use in the field and probably less damage if it falls. If you use this on bench all day you may want to make a stand for it.

The plastics feel cheep and the instructions are lackluster but boy is this thing accurate!Tested against a freshly calibrated Fluke 289 the voltage output was spot on from 10v down to 5v and I mean down to the mv. Down to 1v it was only off by 0.02%. 4-20ma output was from 0.025% to 0.04%The cold junction compensation is not that great but you can set a manual cold junction temperature. It’s also handy as a basic dc only multimeter with a very low current input limit. This is not unique to a loop output device. I had a Fluke 789 which only measured 440ma continuous. While I haven’t had this unit long enough to speak for it’s longevity, it is certainly a bargain and a must have for anyone doing process control work.

I have a Fluke 787 that I use for bench work. I didn't want to spend a grand for a Fluke 707 for field work, so at a tenth of the price I gave this meter a try. The accuracy is absolutely fine for field 4-20mA calibration work. While it's obviously not built as tough as a Fluke, it works just fine for day-to-day use. Also, the fact that it's also a signal generator is a plus. I don't use a generator that often, but nice to know it has one. I'll post an update in six months or so.6 Month Update -I've been using it in the field (offshore Gulf of Mexico Oil & Gas industry) for the past 6 months and have nothing bad to say about it. The mechanicals...selector switch, case, lead plugs, etc. have held up just fine. I use it 99% of the time for verifying various types of 4-20mA transducer loops on PLC systems and it just works.Regarding accuracy. The Fluke 707 is rated at 0.015% and this little guy is rated at 0.2%. That correlates to 0.0025mA and 0.03mA corrections respectively. In the real world, that difference is absolutely irrelevant, so no issue there. The bang for the buck value of this meter is incredible and will work just fine for most automation/I&E techs needs, especially those who have to purchase their own tools and test equipment. Considering this meter is about $90 and the Fluke 707 is around $1,000, it's a no-brainer.Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Fluke hater, I probably have a dozen Fluke handhelds for various purposes, but this meter works fine. AND best part, if I drop it overboard while offshore, I've only lost $100 bucks and not $1,000...I did swap the leads out with a higher quality set including clips, but that is to be expected with a product package in this price range. No regrets whatsoever.

I bought this meter to source 4-20 and 0-10vdc circuits. It's easy to use and very accurate. Using my calibrated fluke 3000 for reference the output was nearly exact in tests. The auto run feature was nice comparing the output live up range. I work on industrial generators and PLC's and glad to add this budget meter to my collection. I've only had it a couple weeks I hope it lasts?. So far great piece for the small investment. If I needed it every day I would prob buy something else. But let's face it can't beat the cost!

Don't expect a fluke. That said I am surprised by how well this low priced tool works. I purchased this for a trainer at work. It worked so well I use it more than my fluke now. With the low cost I do not worry about it being broken or walking away. The only change I made was using a good set of fluke leads. The silicone fluke leads cost more than the meter. Don't be scared by the price, just don't expect a 700.00 meter.

Garbage, do not waste your money, buy the protection plan if you do buy it. It worked great for 3 times I needed it. Then it quit working, I hoping I'll get my money back. I'll update the review if I do.Update, just lost my $100. Grrr
