This carafe was really great to begin with. Coffee would still be pretty hot over night. Then as the months go by it looses its ability to insulate and then the coffee is just luke warm the next morning. Still a good pitcher, and I still use it. But now the coffee has to be microwaved if it sits for more than 4 or 5 hours.

I use a #4 filter for a full pot of drip / pour-over coffee. Wide enough to get my hand inside for a good scrubbing.

We got this to keep coffee hot. We got tired of having to choose between burnt coffee taste when left on the warming plate or having to reheat every cup, which takes time and also slightly alters the flavor.This will keep coffee hot for 5-6 hours easily if you start out with the carafe 2/3 or more full of hot liquid.Tips to insure long heat holding times. I like to put about a cup of hot water in the carafe while I am making coffee. This way, the carafe is prewarmed before the coffee goes in. Also, the less empty air space, the longer it stays hot. So, if the amount of liquid you want to keep hot is consistently much less that the capacity of this, consider a smaller carafe.When putting the lid on, I like that it tightens easily to a point then "locks". No guessing if it is all the way on, or tight enough. The pour mechanism on the lid makes one hand pouring easy. Clean up is easy. When cleaning, just be aware it is easy to not quite get it empty. You probably won't get it completely empty with the lid on. With the lid off, you have to have it completely upside down to get completely empty. Not really enough of an issue to be a design complaint, just enough to need to pay attention to.

We bought this for steeping and serving tea. Makes about 1 1/2 liters of tea and keeps it warm for hours. Works about as good as anyone could expect and for reasonable price. Highly recommended.
