Product Description

For five generations, Thunder Acres has grown wheat on the plains of Kansas. Thunder Acres ships directly to the consumer. This enables us to have full control over the entire production process. In addition to baleing the straw, we harvest the grain which is used for cat-grass or wheatgrass. We also sell wheatgrass growing kits, hedge apples, alfalfa hay, raw cotton, coco coir, and grow trays. Our farm prides itself on using sustainable farming methods which ensures that our farm will be viable for generations to come. We welcome any questions about our farm, our products, or agriculture in general.

How To Grow Oats

  1. Place rinsed oat berries in a quart size sprouting jar.
  2. Soak for at least 6 hours or overnight. Drain off all water. (The first two steps can be skipped if desired.)
  3. Place a layer of soil across the bottom of the growing tray. Oat seed can be boosted by adding organic crab meal to the soil.
  4. Add pre-soaked oat seed to the top of the soil and cover with about 1/2 inch of soil
  5. It is very important that the soil is moist but not muddy. If too wet, seeds can rot and mold is more likely to grow.
  6. Continue to water every other day. We recommend using a spray bottle to ensure even watering and prevent over watering.
  7. The oat grass will be ready for use in about 6-8 days if not sooner. Cut and use.
  8. It will keep growing and be ready to reuse again in 3-4 days
cat-grass

What Is Cat-Grass?

Cat-grass is used to grow for cats to eat. Since cats groom themselves it makes it hard for them to digest their food with the hair that builds up in their stomach. Cat-grass can help the cat get rid of the hairball.

I can't seem to grow enough of this for my spoiled, toothless cat. And when the pot gets root bound and the grass stops growing, I'll toss the whole disc out into the yard where it'll come back to life days or weeks later. Like I have one in my yard right now that's been going for a couple of months. All three cats love it, but the toothless one loves it the most. So yeah, I sit and give her a single blade at a time because she's worth it. This has been her favorite brand of grass so far, so it must taste great! The posted timeline on the bag is accurate and the grass can really tolerate some neglect. It grows beautifully green and thick, I def recommend it.

The pictures with my review are on day 5 after planting! I am amazed at how fast this has grown to be honest! The first seeds we planted barely had time to grow thanks to our chickens snatching them up, so this time we decided to grow in pots rather than in the run. I soaked them in water for about 30hr (I intended on 24hr which is my usual for any seed but I forgot about these) and planted them in regular yard dirt and watered them and left them in a shady spot on the porch for 3 days until I noticed strong sprouts, then moved them into the sun and they have grown at warp speed and look so bright and healthy. We planted some out in thr flower bed and they're growing great too but not as tall as the ones that were in a shady place for the first 3 days. Overall I would say value for money is great because they're growing like there's no tomorrow, even though we bought them for the chickens, our cat has already started showing interest AND the plot of itnim growing in the yard is attracting deer! When these seeds are gone I'm most definitely buying more now that I know us humans can get good benefits from it too

I was buying cat grass, which became ridiculously expensive. I found this great company & purchased the oat grass seeds. I planted them in organic vegetable potting soil & it grows beautifully! My cats will enjoy grass whenever they want it now. My only regret is that I haven't purchased it sooner! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants healthy, happy cats!

I'm successfully growing oat grass for my parakeets (and my grandkids' cat) in small planters with these Thunder Acres seeds. You can use only water or various types of soil/soilless methods such as coconut coir mixed with worm poop. The birds will eat any that fail to germinate. I soak the oat groats overnight then rinse them 2 x day until they barely start to sprout (2-3 days) before spreading them single layer on the top of the cat grass grower grid. I cover the sprouted oat seeds with a damp paper towel cut to fit, then with a custom-cut top. I spray them with water twice a day until green sprouts pop up all over, then remove the paper towels/lids and let the grass grow. Spray with water twice a day or as needed until the grass is tall enough to harvest. I trim the grass short on each end so my parakeets can hop in to forage the tender grass shoots and sprouted groats that I scatter around in the grass. I chop up the harvested ends to put in their chop. They absolutely love it!

I am using these for my chickens. I always try to support farmers and get organic. It seems like half of these seeds didn't sprout or germinate out of the bag. Each batch left my with about 50% working out. Maybe I got a bad batch. Would love to give another shot but these oats were not the most productive of the seeds I bought.
