This is a pretty nice thermocouple. It is practical for applications requiring this degree of accuracy, which is 1.5F +/- over the service range. The bayonet style plug can be adapted using a bayonet to banana adaptor if one wishes to use this thermocouple on lab style meters, etc.The build quality is good, and the extra length is a plus in most applications.Of course, for HVAC work, it is just right. I wish they would have included the bayonet adaptor at this price.Four stars for a five star quality thermocouple that suffers only the missing adaptor. Otherwise, five stars.

Stars: 5First off, I don’t pass out 5-star reviews easily. Secondly, if you’re wondering if you should buy this, the answer is, yes.I am a retired mechanical engineer and have used thermocouples throughout my 40-year career. This was the first time I had an occasion to use an alligator-clip- style thermocouple… and boy am I now wondering why I hadn’t used these before. As for what I received, it far better than I expected. The design philosophy is solid insofar as getting a low-thermal-resistance thermo-mechanical coupling to what you’re measuring; the alligator clip smashes a little thermowell-style bulb against the object to be measured; see the photo. I was wondering about that important detail and feared the manufacturer just soldered the type-K bead somewhere convenient on the back of the alligator clip; the pictures here on the Amazon page don’t make that clear. It’s rather expensive and tedious to measure the accuracy of temperature sensors against a master reference gauge, but I compared this to two known type-K bead sensors I already own by immersing all three in a water bath. My first reference thermocouple measured 19.4 °C, the second measured 19.7 °C, and the TL0500 alligator split the difference at 19.5 °C. Nice!Note that I had all the sensors in contact with each other while in the water bath when making the comparison, which is mandatory when attempting to resolve sub-degree differences.I really could not be more impressed with the quality and construction of the TL0500 alligator sensor. If you already have regular bead-type thermocouples, you definitely should buy this one as it will save you a lot of time cobbling around trying to achieve good thermal contact when making measurements.
