I have two old Asus monitors VE248 that have the DVI-D female port. I bought two of these adaptors and connected them to my existing DVI-D to DVI-D (male to male) cable. It works. At first, when I connected to the Dell docking station, there was no signal from my monitors. You have to go to the Dell website and download the driver "Dell Dock WD19/WD22 Series Firmware Update Utility" Reboot PC and go to Window to select multiple displays.

It actually works. No problems with the image. The item itself seems well built. This one is pretty stationary for me, so it won't be jostled about so I'm not sure about its ruggedness.

Bought this and hooked it up straight out of the box, hooked it up, black screen (though it does detect monitor). Attempted other video card slots and other DVI cables, still black. Swapped out the monitor and tested with another, screen comes on but is pink and unintelligible. Tried other cables and ports , same result.

Works like a charm. Appears to be very similar if not the same unit as supplied with newer Dell Optiplex desktop PCs. Has a securing latch on the DP end (which is very nice). I don't think this unit is "active" for those applications where that is important, and, despite the appearances (of the DVI pins), I believe it's a single-link DVI connection (with the attendant resolution limitations of that).

The cable was a bit shorter than i expected, but aside from that I have no complaints. It does what it's supposed to.

I bought this to run a 4 year old Wacom 21" monitor with a DVI connector. Plugged in to VGA or HDMI with adapters, the monitor is recognized. But it is not recognized with the Display port to DVI adapter. With the HDMI port, the screen goes nuts after about 30 minutes or so. So I thought I would try a display port to DVI. The only problem with the VGA adapter is that Dell in its infinite wisdon did not include any nuts to screw the adapter to the VGA port so all of this dangles; you wiggle the computer (laptop) and it diconnects the monitor which according to Wacom is a no-no.Any suggestions on Display ports? I gave up talking to Dell about anything some years ago. I wanted a Toshiba but they did not have the configuration Dell offered at the time. If this laptop does not fail within the year, it will be the first Dell I have had to make a year. And if the computer will not run enough for you to give Dell an error code you are just out of luck. And I don't drop them.

Displayport isn't quite the standard yet, it may never be, but cards are starting to come with them as an available port. This fact makes access to one of these adapters critical in some cases if you want to use two monitors. Pretty brainless install and not much can go wrong. The thing works like a charm.I specifically got it to use a second monitor on my replacement video card (Diamond ATI 5830). Got the new card without realizing it didn't have two VGA/DVI ports. Not a big deal once I had this adapter though.
