The cylinder keeps unscrewing and comes apart and if you don’t watch it the gate will slam down. I tightened it as much as I could and now that I’m aware of it I will keep an eye out on it.

This tailgate assist is awesome. I installed it on an F-350 and my tailgate is equipped with tie-down hooks of which I had to remove on the left side to accommodate the shock but that's fine. Instant happiness when that tailgate open slowly. Especially for the price you won't regret it.

I cannot say enough about HelloAuto's customer service. I received the tailgate assist kit and everything installed perfectly until I went to snap in the shock. The shock was obviously too short. I contacted customer service and they quickly realized that the package Amazon shipped to me had been opened and the wrong shock was in the package; in fact, it was a shock from an entirely different company, though the rest of the parts were correct. Way to go Amazon (thick sarcasm). HelloAuto immediately shipped out an entirely new kit at no charge, and the new shock fits and works perfectly. Two thumbs up to this company!

One will work fine, could be more stiff but bought two thinking it would be better, two makes the tailgate come out when lifting it back up. I will keep second one for a backup.

I have a 2020 Ford F-250 and this fits exactly as designed. No more tailgate slamming if you don’t assist it the whole way down.

Install just took a few minutes. Can't understand why some had issues. Once installed, worked great. We will have to see how long it lasts. You will need a 10 mm wrench along with the provided 50 T wrench .
