For many of us jeep owners, we dont like stock... anything. So when I upgraded to 35s, I originally did the rear tire plate upgrade to allow for the bigger tire. But, as time goes on, when you drive over bumps etc, it feels like your spare tire is going to rip the rear door off the jeep. I watched some of the videos and looked at the instructions when I did the install and decided to go my own route with it. Instead of installing the new hinge unto the door, I decided install the hinge and then install the door. Doing this I was able to do i on my own. I also did not have to do much adjustments either as I had the bolts just a little lose so I closed the door, did final adjustments and tightened down the bolts. Now when I drive over any big bumps etc, you can tell how solid the rear door is now with the bigger tire on it. No more flopping or feeling like the door is going to get ripped off.Now I do have one issue with it already as it has been installed for a few weeks. Near the hinge between the frame and the door, I am seeing rust already which is extremely concerning. I sprayed some WD-40 to see if that stops but if it gets worse, I will be contacting the seller.

The carrier feels really sturdy and looks great. I was able to install with some help pretty easy.

I purchased and installed this tailgate reinforcement kit about two years ago for my JL. In that time, there have been zero issues with the kit. It still looks great and has been rock solid in supporting the weight of my 35” tire/wheel. I did rattlecan it prior to installing just to add some additional level of rust protection. This kit is definitely a bargain compared to the $800 Mopar kit and I would absolutely buy it again.

It's a nice strong product. Needs a bit of redesigning for the 3rd brake light. Every good pot hole you hit. The light bracket taps the window. Also it's so tight to the window the wiper rubs on it. I am going to take the tire off and see if I can bend it far enough ahead. I have had it 3 weeks now. It's the middle of the summer with not much rain so far but yet I am seeing rust coming from the hinges

This carrier was bought on a total whim. I had read the reviews and thought “well, I either get a huge pile of junk or a total win in value for the money”. Fortunately my experience was the latter.Let me start by saying that this is a breeze to install if you have some mechanical experience and a decent set of tools to work with. If you’re less mechanically inclined, hire someone that knows their way around a Jeep to do it for you. You’ll need some odd tools for the removal of the stock hinges and an extra set of hands if you don’t trust yourself to get the gate to lineup. That all being said, I managed to get this banged out in a relatively short amount of time. Plan on spending a few hours to get everything perfectly lined up. Tyger has a pretty good set of instructions and a video posted to help you work through this. I highly recommend you follow everything they provide as it makes the install super easy. All set and done, this carrier is now supporting a 104lb 17” wheel and 37” tire combo without a fuss. The one issue I ran into was the bump stops to keep the tire from wiggling around on the mounting bracket. My solution to this was found on the forums and works like a charm. Just reuse the factory stops and throw a cut down PVC pipe in with a rubber chair leg boot over it (can find all of this at your local lowes or Home Depot for cheap). This instantly fixed the wobble/flex on the mount. If you don’t get the stops put in, you’ll risk damage to the tailgate itself from all the weight flexing around back there.Lastly, really pay attention to your alignment on the gate. I’d say I’m about 98% perfect back there which is good enough for me as everything works as intended. I could try to adjust it a tad more up to get the latch smooth as silk but honestly it’s not worth risking making it worse and I’ve come to appreciate it being a little firmer than before so I know it’s engaged (this could also be in my head considering the weight difference has a lot to do with this as well). Now, having said all that, would I buy it again? Abso-friggin-lutely! I’ve intentionally put weight on my gate while it’s swung out at 90 degrees from the latch and it doesn’t move; the whole back end of the Jeep moves when I push down on the gate WITH the wheel and tire mounted. I wouldn’t hesitate to mount 200+lbs of wheel and tire on this. It’s solid as a rock. Tyger made a fantastic product and it’s even better now with the cover plates they included to cover up where the old hinges came off on the gate. You can’t beat this carrier for the money and the coating has been very robust so far with zero signs of wear or rust.Seriously, don’t waste your money on another brand unless you’re just itching to light hundreds of dollars on fire for the sake of a brand name (COUGH teraflex COUGH).You won’t be disappointed!

A friend and I installed this tire carrier on my 2021 JLURD. It came very well packaged and well padded. The instructions were easy to follow, and it took us less than two hours to complete. It is very heavy-duty and holds the 37" Patagonia spare tire with plenty of room- does not touch the bumper. The carrier came with "plates" to cover any exposed metal from the OEM hinges, so it's a nice, clean look. Guessing that is a recent addition from reading some of the older reviews. I was a bit nervous ordering this brand since I hadn't heard of Tyger before, not wanting to install something that was going to look cheap and rattle. It looks great, and I have zero rattling, even when doing some significant off-road bouncing and rock crawling. Very happy with my purchase, very reasonably priced, and I wouldn't hesitate to try other Tyger products.

Figured I would try this and save some money over other more expensive carriers. It looked okay out of the box, but on closer inspection the welds are pretty terrible, there’s some places where they completely melted through the metal. Installation is complete pain, and that’s expected for a tire carrier on the JL, but this one is just off. Misaligned holes all over. Couldn’t get it to close properly even after completely removing it and reinstalling three times. Hours of trying to align it, never matched up like it should. After testing the flex compared to the stock hinges, I would say it’s a moderate improvement. Perhaps I received a defective unit, if that’s the case, I still wouldn’t recommend this. I returned it, wasted hours of my time. Gotta find something better quality.
