The Ultralife 10 Year Smoke Detector Battery is the only 9V battery warranted to last 10 years. Alkaline batteries in smoke detectors have to be changed every year. With the Ultralife 10 Year Battery, state-of-the-art lithium technology keeps your life-saving detector energized for a full 10 years. You can forget all those "low-battery" alarms that always seem to sound in the middle of the night. It is a must for second homes where your smoke detector can fail when you're not there. This battery contains no toxic metals.

Product misrepresented for a 10 year life, normally referring to the SERVICE life.Instead the package is clearly labeled 10 SHELF Life.

I had one of these in a smoke detector that was over 10 feet high.It lasted closer to 12 years. Works so much better than other lithium batteriesBought this new one to go with a new smoke detector. No need to bring a 10 foot ladder into my house every 6 months.5 star product.

I got three of these batteries in 2009 (just checked my previous orders) and the first one has just gone. Just over EIGHT years, that’s a good result!

I have two uses to the Ultra Life batteries. (1) Driveway alarm. The alarm won't send a signal to the receiver when connected to an alkaline battery. It works great with this. (2) Freeze alarm. Our freeze alarm calls if the back up battery is low. About halfway through the winter I used to get a low battery call. With these, no calls. Highly recommend the battery if you need something with enough 'juice' for out-of-the-ordinary equipment.

I bought two of these batteries for my two smoke alarms as one was annoyingly chirping away during the 2009/2010 proper winter indicating that it's battery required replacing according to it's instructions. (If you have two alarms, replace both batteries at the same time!)However, when I did replace it and refitted the alarm to the ceiling, the damned thing still chirped away so I swapped around these new batteries but that did not work. Only then did I know that I had one faulty smoke alarm. As these smoke alarms were fitted about five years ago by a crew from my local fire station, I thought it right to telephone the station to notify them so that they could update any possible records they may keep of households that have alarms fitted. I hasten to add that I DID NOT ring 999!Surprisingly, within the hour a fire crew doing their maintenance rounds (checking fire hydrants I suspect) arrived at my address, took these two older alarms down and fitted two brand new smoke alarms which are the sealed battery unit type. Now if these become faulty, I'm to telephone a helpline to have the battery replaced. Now that's what I call an excellent service from our excellent fire & rescue service. Thank you so very much!So now I have four batteries, two used but still with good charge and two new ones with nothing to use them in. But Christmas and Birthdays always come around and I've given out plenty of hints.I wonder if I'll get...

Our house has smoke detectors that cannot be reached by a tall person standing on the top wrung of an 8 ft step ladder. Unless one has the fine balance of a circus acrobat, the risk posed by changing a battery annually is probably greater than the risk of dying in a fire. So it just doesn't make sense to use the cheapest 9V batteries in such smoke detectors.Four years ago we installed six of these batteries in smoke detectors, and none has worn out to the point of causing the detector to chirp. That's a good start. We recently had reason to change out one of the batteries installed in a 17 ft ceiling, and the electrician told us that the 10 year battery was getting close to being worn out. So we have come to expect four to five years of life out of these batteries, not ten years as the marketing language suggests. If one compares these on just the basis of the cost of batteries, they may seem a little costly. But if one has to hire an electrician with a 12 ft step ladder every time one smoke detector beeps, they can be a genuine cost-saver.For people with smoke detectors in tough-to-reach places, for people who hate to be woken up at 3:00 AM thanks to a chirping smoke detector, and for people who have a lot of smoke detectors to worry about, these batteries can provide good value. For those who have two or three easy-to reach smoke detectors and who don't mind swapping out batteries every year when the smoke detectors start waking people up at night, they may not be.
