You're looking for ammo as smooth and as dense as possible to prolong the life of the bands, and for better accuracy at further distances. Can't beat polished steel. The 3/8" is perfect for me, but that's personal preference.

So far, I haven't shattered a single one of these hardened glass marbles. They seem very tough.

Ordered 100 steel slingshot balls and they came in a clamshell type plastic package that had the corner broken out. Half the balls were rolling around loose in the amazon box. Counted up what I could find and only got 93.

...but they are not good at all for craft paint. I thought I would save a buck or two and get these instead of the mixer balls marketed for craft paints, but unfortunately these rust over time. Hopefully this review will keep crafters out there from making the same mistake.

I am giving five stars, EVEN THOUGH, these are not .5" diameter. They are consistent in appearance, size, and shape. They are all pitted, I guess from shipping...maybe the manufacturing process. I use them for game pieces for marble solitaires that I make so they are good enough for that purpose...wish they were exact size and higher quality is all.
