Love this useful little tool! For years, I've just traced alignment marks on patterns and then flipped the pieces over to try to mark the same spot. It worked, but this is easier and more fun (lol), plus I always know the front and the back are identical instead of ever-so-slightly off.

I've only used it a few times so far. Works great on my pattern paper (I use butcher / wrapping paper) and on hard stock. DO NOT USE it on fabric, it is not meant for that and you will destroy it. I will update this if it fails me too soon down the road.

It’s strong and cut the papers and pabrics well. But it is rusty. Looks not good. Although, it can cut well, I am okay!

**Please note: Pattern notchers are used to cut notches in PAPER PATTERNS so you can cut slits into fabric to line up seams as you sew. They are NOT meant to be used on fabric.**TL/DR: It works fine on oak tag and thicker paper (which is what it's intended for), fine on typing or butcher paper (although you may have to realign the lower plate to get it to work), but it doesn't work on tissue paper (like what home-sewing patterns are printed on) unless you put a thicker piece of paper behind it.The notcher I received is fine. The one I got was slightly misaligned so it didn't cut perfectly clean notches and wouldn't cut typing-weight paper well, but there are small Phillips head screws on the lower plate that you can loosen so you can realign the plate. After realigning it, it works great on typing paper. It still just shreds tissue paper unless you put a layer of typing paper behind it, though. The quality is fine for the price. You can get ones that are higher quality, but they cost more. If this is something you're looking at as an investment, you might want to get a higher-quality one. If you just need a utilitarian pattern notcher and you're not using it on tissue paper, this will work well.(I wouldn't recommend using this to cut notches in tissue paper patterns even if you could get it to work, though. It's meant for notching heavy paper like oak tag, which is similar to manila folder paper. Even if you could get it to work, the deep, skinny notches it cuts would most likely get snagged on fabric over time and tear if you used the pattern multiple times. On the other hand, if you're planning to use a pattern multiple times, you'd be better off transferring it to thicker paper [or ironing it onto freezer paper] anyway.)You MIGHT be able to use this notcher on fabric, but that is absolutely NOT its intended purpose (despite what some well-known home sewing "experts" on TV and YouTube have unfortunately told their viewers). If that's what you're planning to use it for, don't expect it to work unless you're using it on fabric that behaves like heavy paper (and even then I wouldn't expect it to work well).

I can't believe I waited so long to get this. It's such a godsend! Used to use an exacto to cut triangles out of hundreds of paper templates, dulling the tip of the blade. What used to take me up to 15 minutes of cutting the pattern notches, I can do in 1 minute now. All the notches are uniform, same length, and easy to use. Worth it - get one!

This thing is so awesome. I never heard of this until I watched Cosplay Apprentice's Build Guild videos where he recommended this item for your registration marks. Previously, I was drawing out the pattern with the registration marks, and flipped it over and drew the registration marks again. Sometimes I was a little off since I use regular copy paper which is opaque. With this simple punch, the registration marks shows up on both sides of the paper. I can also manually adjust the depth of the punch, which I use to indicate where a new piece should line up.It's a simple tool, but it makes a difference with my pattern building and construction. If you found my review helpful, please vote "yes" or "helpful" below.
