The U.S. Solid motorized solenoid valve features a stainless steel body for general outdoor and indoor use. It is favored by customers for DIY projects, medium temperature and chemical applications, as well as flow control for irrigation, reverse osmosis and motorcycle systems.

Direction of the Flow

Most U.S. Solid Valves are UNIDIRECTIONAL

Make a note of the arrow on your valve. Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional. This means they are intended to flow in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. If connected in opposite directions, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for Normally Closed valves). Additionally, be sure the medium passing through is filtered. If not, particles will cling to the gasket over time, which can cause it to not seal properly.

THREADING

U.S. Solid Valves follow National Standards for pipe thread. We suggest the use of Teflon tape to ensure the seal of the NPT threading. The tapered male and female thread form angled surfaces that with increased torque squeeze the Teflon tape resulting in a tight seal.

OVERHEATING

These valves should be energized for less than 8 hours. While most do not have more than 18W of power, the coils are in a contained area and can burn out if energized for too long. We suggest a computer fan to keep the coil cool if necessary to energize continuously for extended periods.

POLARITY

  • For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units include a ground wire. Open up the connector and look for the ground symbol (as shown in the corner).
  • For valves with a ground wire, please be sure to ground the valve.

GASOLINE and PRESSURE WARNING

  • NBR gaskets should not be used with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve requires contact with these substances, opt for one with a VITON gasket.
  • All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate. This is especially true of pilot or indirectly operated valves.

As stated this valve is not suitable for continuous operation as supplied; since it dissipates close to 20 watts. With the build up of heat; the coil in time will fail. To circumvent this issue a solenoid driver can be used. This will reduce the current by around 60% and the heat generated by around 80%. A solenoid driver turns the valve fully on for around a second than gradually reduces the current (utilizing PWM ) to a duty cycle of around 40%. An adjustable valve driver circuit board is available on EBAY that will do this for around $5. The board needs to be put into some type of enclosure. This board will greatly improve the overall reliability of this solenoid valve.I do not understand why the valve supplier does not offer this feature incorporated as part of the valve packaging since it would cost them less than a dollar!

Works as offered. Flow will occur with very low delta P across the valve. However, draws current/eats power when on.

I do industrial service work on various types of commercial and industrial production equipment, and as such, I run into machines both foreign and domestic. European machines tend to use 24 volt DC valves and sensors more than American, and finding an affordable domestic source for such things can be difficult.I got this valve for an Italian granite cutting bridge saw because the price for the OEM part was well north of $100, and the lead time was ridiculous. This valve was ~$38 and Prime eligible and looks a LOT like the original valve on the machine. Turns out, the original valve is either the same (OEMs sometimes clean the maker and part #s from parts so you have to buy from them), or a perfect copy.I put the valve on the machine and it works like a champ! My customer thinks I got the OEM and is probably expecting a high charge with my mark-up added, but I'm going to surprise him with a much lower price than he's expecting and STILL make decent money.If you buy this, one thing I will advise you to do is to check the tightness of the bolts holding the top part of the valve on. It takes a 5 mm hex key and the valve I got has loose bolts out of the box and leaked pretty good until I tightened them. Otherwise, it is a really good value for a stainless valve - especially since it is 24 VDC.
