Yes, this is the right RS485 to usb cord. Definitely necessary for battery communication, you will have to download a driver.

My TP-Link switch came with a DB9 to serial cable, but I do not currently have a functioning laptop with a serial port, so I started looking for an alternative. This is perfect, it allows me to plug directly into my switch and laptop, and use PuTTY to access the CLI on the switch. I couldnt ask for more. The length is just right, long enough to not be annoying and short enough to not be in the way.

Works for battery management system with RS485 connections using the onboard converter chip. It will not work with equipment that require RS232 connections, which is most networking equipment.

This a great quality cable, and you could tell just by the images, but what I was hoping these would allow me to plug directly into network devices. Unfortunately, I did not look further into this cable to see if it had a network interface chip. It does NOT. This cable is meant to communicate to serial devices, NOT network devices.Im not sure why I thought it would work since looking at the description now, it says nothing about network communication, I suppose I was just hoping. It's functionality and use is straight forward. In a Linux environment, if you have device connection echoing on the console, you should see the device info on first connection and you can "echo" or "cat" right to the device (after setting communication speed via "stty") using this cable. In Windows, you will probably need a serial interface application or the device's Windows application which will also make it just plug and play.Great cable, just make sure you understand that these are essentially serial cables and not a network interface cable

I ordered this RS485 cable to link my hybrid inverter to a BMS battery pack, and its functionality is exceptional. Moreover, both devices are communicating with each other, making the charging process precise. I believe it is indeed affordable and of relatively good quality.

Just what I needed to connect to my Linksys switch. Other reviewers have had issues, so your mileage may vary. It's really straightforward to use. Windows 11 automatically loaded the correct driver. My computer saw it as COM10, but that will vary depending on what communications devices you already have installed.

I work from home for a large company and getting what is needed for some of our remote sites can be a challenge. This cable has saved me so much time and trouble, just having it to be able to trouble shoot and solve some issues in our switches. Cable seems pretty good and the wiring is long enough to reach switch to laptop. 10/10
