The way of chip removal is different when machining thread. The chip removal mode of spiral groove tap is upward, which is suitable for blind hole thread processing. The chip removal mode of straight groove tap is downward, which is suitable for through hole machining
Spiral groove tap is one of the tools for processing thread, which is a kind of tap. It is named because its chip removal groove is spiral. Spiral groove taps are divided into left-hand spiral groove taps and right-hand spiral groove taps. Straight groove taps have no such distinction

I bought this for occasional use in tapping aluminum to install motorcycle fuel taps that are 1/4" NPS or 1/4" National Pipe Straight thread. A straight is NOT the same as a NPT or tapered thread. You must use the correct pipe tap. I'm happy with the results so far. The tap cut a clean, burr free thread.
