Do not try to file hardened steel with a hardened steel file; you will quickly ruin the file. Also diamond-embedded files should not be used on soft materials, including many soft steels, as this will cause the diamonds to be torn out. Clean out any bits of file metal with a stiff wire brush.
Chalk/oil the file: rub a small amount of oil into the teeth of the file to:
1. Make cutting easier from the loss of friction of metal on metal
2. Remove the chance of having pins to form and stick in the teeth
3. Keep the dust down and make cleanup so as to breath much easier
4. Rust protection on the piece and the file itself.
Using Oil, do not forget that requires the surface to be clean.

The file that arrived was black and yellow(not orange) and more importantly(to me) it didn’t come with the pouch shown. I would have given one star but the file appeared to be decent quality. Although I never opened the clear plastic packaging so I don’t know for sure. Returned and bought a Bahco.

This is a good file. I like that it is long. I used it on the lawn mower blade and it did help a lot. I just wish that the handle (cover for the end) wasn't so loose and coming off when you use it.

Its a file, its not bad but I bought it because it shows a case and it did not arrive with a case whichbis why I bought it.

You get what you pay for. I might have gotten a bad one. This thing is no better than rubbing a flat piece of metal. It’s extremely dull and I had to go back to my old square file. Spend the extra $$ don’t buy this product.

Great fine grit file, good handle and weight to it. Comes in a nice leather green pouch for it.Shipping does take forever so if you need a file as soon as possible look at your local store for one.
