Quick start guide to make 2 cups of coffee using the Valtcan Titanium Percolator:

1. Fill pot with 2 cups of water.

2. Place filter basket into the pot and fill with 2-3 scoops of ground coffee.

3. Place pot on fire source and bring water to rolling boil then turn it down slightly. Let it cook for 4 minutes maybe 5 to take the bitterness out.

4. Remove from heat when desired coffee strength is reached. If coffee grind is too fine and you find coffee grinds on top, pour cold or room temp water around the edge of the pot.

Pour freshly brewed coffee directly from pot into coffee cups for consumption.

Either makes weak coffee or the backer overflows

Purchased this the moment I discovered it existed. I’d wondered why no one had made a percolator from titanium, seemed like a natural camping tool. While there are some design limitations I’ll outline, on the whole this percolator does exactly what it is designed to do and quite well. This percolator does two jobs at once. It both serves as an excellent coffee maker for two or more campers, as well as being a nice pot for boiling a decent amount of water. The components of the percolator, specifically the basket, stem, and lid, are all seamlessly constructed and perfectly fitted. Some reviewers worried that the glass viewing nob at the top might not be shatter resistant, that’s an easy fix. There are excellent manufacturers of these glass nobs, usually charging less than $10 for a set of two, and the threads for this percolator are the same as every other major manufacturer. All percolators operate off the same basic design, with hot water rising through a central tube and splashing against the glass nob viewing window before falling down onto the basket and dripping down onto the coffee grounds. The glass nob serves to show you that hot water is rising, and the current color of your brew as water recirculates. Because this is made entirely from titanium there are a few things to keep in mind.First, the lighter weight means you have to be careful with heat. A low slow burn will ensure that when your water begins to boil it isn’t violent enough to make the internal components jump. With a heavier metal like steel this usually isn’t an issue, but with titanium if you let the water boil too violently you will cause the basket with the grounds to jump and some of the grounds will escape as water overflows. If you pre-wet your grounds and let the water boil at a low steady rate, you should see no movement from the pot and you will be able to watch as your coffee reaches the correct color. The second thing to consider is that the inner grounds basket is not the same diameter as the inner wall of the main container. Most percolators have the basket sit flush inside the main pot, which ensures that nothing escapes from the basket. This just goes back to the point above about a low slow boil, doing that will alleviate any concerns. The main bail handle on top of the pot is sturdy and easily holds the pot from cooking chains. The pour handles on the side remain cool to the touch while cooking. The spout has an integrated filter, and the top of the pot is rolled to give added strength. The lid fits securely on top, and will not fall off while pouring. To summarize, to get the most out of this pot you need to wet the grounds, set the pot so that it does not get too hot while boiling, continue to apply heat while brewing but avoid any sounds of steam or hissing (too hot), and when your brew is dark enough take it off the fire and enjoy.Cleaning, like most titanium, is a breeze. Just a little clean water, soap if you like, and a. Little time in the sun to dry and you are ready to go.If I could change anything about this pot, I would make the coffee ground basket large enough to fit snugly within the top. This would alleviate any bouncing caused by a hotter boil, and would eliminate the likelihood of any significant grounds at the bottom of the pot. I would also make the transport bag a tad larger. It is a non-flexible canvas-like material that is very sturdy but a very tight fit. That is just a gripe of mine, the bag does what it is supposed to, fits the pot, and is well constructed. All in all, this makes a great pot of coffee as long as the steps above are followed. Highly recommended.

Seems well made but the basket isn’t as large as it should be for proper percolating.

I loved this products weight and size. It is a perfect size to fill my yeti mug. It brews well. I have two complaints: the filters too does not stay closed. (But this is normal) and two (a big one) the class broke after about two weeks of use. This is disheartening, I have never has the class break on one. Just shows how much the quality has fallen over the years.

I like the titanium. I got this for boiling water and making coffee in the boundary waters. Initial testing the glass piece on the lid cracked from the heat and the coffee grounds holder does not drain water very well. It overflows instead of running through making weak coffee.

It's like my full size camp style percolator, but smaller size, lightweight, and really high quality. I got to use this for the first time over the weekend and it worked great. I was heating over a gas stove in my pop up camper, but I have no doubt that it will work as well over a camping stove or similar heating method. It's very lightweight for it's size, and provides for a pretty good capacity of coffee - easily enough for two people to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The percolator method is awesome because you can get a good, strong brew according to your preference. My method is to heat to a boil, then reduce the heat to slowly percolate over a few minutes. You can judge you progress by watching the coffee "bubble' up through the clear percolator handle. The longer you go, the stronger the coffee because it's recycling through the basket of grounds.Unlike some models this one didn't include additional paper or cloth filters, but you don't really need it with the design of the basket and I didn't get any coffee grounds mixed into the coffee as long as you take it easy on the boil. Overall it's a really awesome coffee maker for the size, weight, function and workmanship. One of the best pieces of camping gear I have added to my kit in some time!
