As parents, we tend to need to use thermometers more than usual to deal with sick kids but also have to deal with kids that won't sit still long enough to properly take their temperature. We had previously been dealing with this by using an infrared forehead and ear thermometer but I was always a little bit wary of the precision of that thermometer. This thermometer gives a reading in a somewhat quick 2 second readout and I feel like it's more precise than our infrared one. The ability to take it under the tongue or in the armpit is also a nice feature though the expected temperature range is different for both methods. The readout is quick and easy to read. One small annoyance is the mode button, which just changes the display arrow to point where the reading should be taken from. It's a very small arrow and there is no beep to let you know when the mode has been changed so make sure to double check which mode you are on before you take a temperature. This is a nice thermometer to have around with our little ones.

I always forget what the normal body temperature is supposed to be exactly because I tend to run lower than average. So this really helps with the color changing so I don’t have to Google to figure out if I or my household are in fever range. Nice big number display.

This is ready to use right out of the box. The battery is pre-installed. Just take off the cover, press the power button, put it in your mouth, and it will beep when it has a reading. It's very fast, taking maybe 2-3 seconds to get a result. It comes with 5 paper probe covers, instructions, and the cover for the tip. The tip is bendy so if you need to get it into an awkward place you can do that. I put it under my tongue and got a normal reading very quickly. It's slightly expensive for something like this, but the quick readout makes it very useful when you need results fast or are dealing with fussy children.

This thermometer is really simple to use, and gives you results within seconds. The battery is already installed, so it can be used straight out of the box. I believe the temperature is fairly accurate as well, and it's nice that it gives you the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. A little pricey, but it works well.

This thermometer is not very intuitive. The thermometer must be at room temperature. If it's not and you turn it on, you'll get a 10 second countdown with a timer symbol, which the instructions doesn't mention. I believe this is because the thermometer has to acclimate to room temperature. If you try to use it to take a reading while it's counting down, it will just produce an error.Once you understand that, it's easy to use and great for children because it only takes about 2 seconds to get a reading. This is because it operates differently than a regular thermometer.Instead of measuring the actual temperature, it measures the change in temperature over those 2 seconds. A higher differential from room temperature will cause the temperature to change faster. It then calculates the real temperature based on how fast the change is. This allows for quicker readings, but a bit less accurate readings. One thing I think they can improve is the battery compartment. It doesn't have any sort of water-resistant design so you have to be careful not to get the back end of the thermometer wet when cleaning it.Overall I like it for quick measurements, but it could be better.

I have a strong distrust of 2-second thermometers, ear thermometers and infrared thermometers. Not to sound too much like an old man telling people to get off my lawn, but my wife and I have an old pregnancy thermometer that gives us our temperature in Celsius with two digits after the decimal, and then we have two other standard Japanese thermometers that give us a temperature with one digit after the decimal. We've tried the infrared thermometers, the ear thermometers and the two second thermometers, and all of those have been lacking. When I saw this thermometer that actually acknowledged the options of taking your temperature orally and with your armpit, I was tentatively hopeful that it might be useful. My wife is Japanese and my kids were born over there, so they're used to taking their temperatures using their armpit. As an American, I'm used to taking my temperature orally. This thermometer allows you to set your method, which seems to aid in it's accuracy. My one knock on this is that I think many Americans are unused to the idea of taking your temperature with your armpit, and the LCD screen has a tiny arrow indicating whether you have it set to rectal, mouth or armpit. If you're not paying attention, you could set it wrong and think the thermometer is less accurate than it is.Aside from the arrow indicating the mode you have the thermometer set to, which is a tiny arrow, the LCD screen's text is large and easy to read.I've tested this orally and using the my armpit, and both work well. If you want to know if it works rectally, check other people's reviews.I still believe you will always get a more accurate reading from a slow thermometer, but this lets you quickly and easily get enough data to decide whether or not you want to break out the old thermometer and wait longer for a more accurate reading. The soft, flexible thermometer tip makes this easy to use, easy to read and quick. It out performs the two second thermometer we pick up in Japan years ago when our kids were younger, and I expect we'll actually get utility out of this. I'll likely set it to armpit mode and make this the quick and easy check for anyone who thinks they have a fever, and then break out an old school thermometer when/if we need to confirm exactly how much of a fever someone has.
