When they say 4 lb tumbler they mean including the heavy barrel, lids, water, and media. Much more than 1/2 lb of rocks and it overheats and stops. I definitely would not buy this brand again.

I have other Vevor products that work great like a facing machine and sand blaster so I was very disappointed with this tumbler.When I first turn it on it starts out strong turning the barrel but after about 10 minutes it starts to struggle and after about 20 minutes it turns off with the E2 error code which means it got “stuck.”I thought the problem was me and I had just overloaded it so I pulled some rocks out to try again. The tumbler is only about 1/3-1/2 full and it still has the same problems as before, stalling and stopping.I probably won’t be returning because I hate the hassle but it was a disappointing gift for my daughter’s birthday.

I have two Lortone tumblers and was looking for something to supplement in smaller 3 pound rock batches. This motor will barely turn with the two small bags sent with the tumbler. It loaded about 1/4 full before it would turn- and this included grit and water. If you are serious about rock tumbling - don’t purchase this unit!

I held off on writing this review until I had some time with this tumbler. This is my second tumbler my first was one of those small national geographic tumblers with the small barrel so I am barely even a novice tumbler at this point.When I first received the unit I was experiencing the E2 error others have spoken of in their reviews. This would even happen with the barrel not even a quarter of the way full in some cases. But the frustrating part was there were some times were it would work for days on end without issues. So I contacted vevor and they sent out a new control board. Benefit of the doubt I installed the new control board and the unit was working better. I could get a half full barrel to spin for awhile. I put it through two stages of about a week with a few hiccups where the unit had issues starting, but if it would start and stay moving for a few hours I had some confidence that it would keep rolling for the remainder of the stage cycle. However, recently, 3 days into stage 3 I can't get this thing to keep rolling for more than a few minutes. It is honestly infuriating. The motor seems more than capable of turning the barrell at the slowest setting and even higher settings at half full but it just stops for no reason, pulling the power and hitting the various controls to start or pause the cycle sometimes work to restart the unit but it will stop again or it will crash and become unresponsive.I am glad that there are people who have had luck with their tumblers but I definitely have not and I do not recommend this product.After reading another reviewer's review I plan on purchasing a 12v motor speed controller and I'll just bypass the control board's firmware all together.

The first one looked very good right out of the box and it ran fine for the first cycle. For the second cycle it would not turn on at all and it seemed like something inside wouldn't work or turn. We did the work to send it back and got a replacement which arrived yesterday. I was seething to discover all the packets of grit and powder missing AND THE TUMBLER BARREL ITSELF missing. Sent it back yesterday and now await a refund. Huge letdown due to it was the perfect (specificly wanted) graduation gift.

I had to send the first one back because no matter what I did it threw an E code repeatedly. Amazon sent me a replacement and it's already showing wear on the barrel, lid and wheels after 2 weeks of use. I use a digital scale to measure everything so I'm not overloading it. * Update, the replacement is now an expensive doorstop as it will not run for more than 5 minutes no matter what you do.
