Works immediately—just put it in the sink, and it eliminates odors right away. However, be aware that it may slightly slow the drain, though it's a minor trade-off compared to getting rid of the smel

They only let through the amount of water coming out of a water fountain, so they immediately back up once installed and you are standing in dirty water. I don't know how they even sell these legitimately, the design is incredibly poor and they won't allow me to return them because we had to ship them to the BVI and missed the cutoff.

I wish i would have bought it sooner. The fitment was very tight, not allowing me to put the plug in the pipe as far as recommended but it didn't matter. I was still able to get it below the rim of the pipe and everything works great. The water from my water softener drains perfectly when purging without any overrun. Also, it eliminated 100% of the odors that were associated with the basement drain.

We have a 100 year old house and the main floor drain in the basement would routinely have sewer gases coming from it. Our washer, dehumidifier, and condensation from the a/c empties into the drain so we couldn't just cover it. This works perfect and we no longer have periods where our house is stinky. The pipe is 4 inches, and this fit perfectly and is well sealed (aside from the area that lets the water still flow through). We have not smelled any sewer gases since installing this.

…the water flow through the valve is much less than using a drain ball valve device. I put the green trap seal into a floor drain in a sump pump overflow area. The sewer smell is gone, but the water flow through the valve is much less than when using a ball valve device. So beware that the flow through the valve may not meet your needs.

We have a floor drain in our basement that is prone to backing up and flooding. It drains our kitchen area and I think the horizontal pipe is maybe slightly flat so if the lines gets gunked up which seems to happen frequently we get a back up until I can go clear the line. The floor drain in our basement is also the drain for our sump pump and this allows water to pass through it while keeping backflow out of the basement. I can tell when the line gets clogged as our kitchen sinks will drain a bit slower and I can either auger it or put down some drain cleaner which will pass whatever is in there but we are no longer getting a back up into our basement which is great. It's a bit expensive but worth the cost for the peace of mind.

Great prodcut, not just a backup drain valve to stop water...but also stops any sewer gas coming up too. I used this to replace an older backup valve that relied on spings to keep the valve shut, but over time that didn't keep a tight seal. This is far superior, and simple to install with a snug seal.

The product would be 5 stars if they could actually get the dimensions proper as per the manufacturer's website. It is well built and sturdy design, but outer tolerances are off as I ordered based on fit range in millimeters from Green Drain website. I have verified my inside drain diameter, and it should have a slight friction fit, but instead just slides into drain without any resistance. At the moment I have cut a band from a bicycle inner tube, and wrapped it around the outside to provide enough friction fit so it doesn't fall down into the trap below.

Summary, Works well at blocking odors, but drains too slow. This waterless drain trap is well-made and feels like a good quality item. It was easy to install - simply remove the drain cover and push it in and it seals well. It is also easy to remove by pulling up from the center. It works very well at stopping foul odors from coming up the drain. I think this would be ideal in a floor drain with occasional small amounts of water.I would NOT recommend it in a shower drain unless you have a water saving showerhead. My rainfall shower head lets out much more water than this can drain so it starts puddling quickly. Overall, it did not work well for my specific needs so I promptly returned it.COMPARISON: I have also used the sureseal brand of drain trap. The sureseal brand drain trap drains water much quicker so the water does not puddle at all. The problem with the sureseal brand is that the flap starts to sag after about a year of use and it stops working as intended and will not block the drain/sewer odors. For now, I will replace the sureseal brand every year if necessary until I find a more durable product that flows fast enough for my rainfall showerhead.

New to us townhouse has a stinky basement shower drain. Every time one of the 3 toilets from anywhere in the house flush, stinky fumes would come out of the drain. My investigation tells me a working p trap was installed and there was no evidence of clog or blockage in the system. Stink is most probably the result of an inefficient vent system in the drains. More costly solution was to install another vent = $$$.I stumbled upon this product while researching solutions for my problem. Installation took less than 5 mins. Pop the drain, make sure drain pipe is clean, drop this device into the pipe and push to make sure the rubber “fins” provide a good seal around this device and the inside wall of the pipe. Ran the shower full blast for around 5 mins to see wether water pools on the floor which may indicate draining is slowed down. Surprisely, no change. So I filled up a bucket of water about half way and dumped everything into the shower floor while shower was still running. Water initially pooled in the floor but was gone in a few seconds. Yehey! There’s no significant slowing of water draining! Before I installed this device, I read reviews that say draining slowed down to the point of water pooling on the floor while taking a shower. That was my biggest concern. Almost everybody was saying this product kept the stink out but had that issue of slow draining. For those having problems witn slow drain with this product, try pushing the device deeper into the drain. That will help build more water pressure between this device and the water on the floor. Also, it may help using a shower head that is one of those water efficient kind rated for 1.5 gallons per minute.Very happy to get rid of that annoying stink!
