I was looking for something that had a very large and very beautiful display. This was the perfect unit for me. It is easily visible in bright daylight in my living room or at night. You can also turn it off. The sensor that it comes with for the outdoor reading is very accurate. I actually have my sensor on the outside of a brick wall not even anywhere close to the unit and it works perfectly. Be aware that the unit turns off for at least 5 or 10 minutes occasionally in order to connect to some kind of weather service or something. Then it goes back on automatically. This seems to happen a couple of times a day. Sometimes it stays off a little bit longer than I would like it to but it always goes back on rather quickly. It says it does this in the directions so I was not surprised. It has very large numbers for both the outside and indoor temperatures. Like I said, it is very colorful and easy to read. It can easily be read from across a room. I like the fact that it has humidity sensors for indoors and outdoors below the temperatures. And they are accurate as they gel with the weather reports.

Overall, this is quite an impressive unit. It features a plethora of information in a sleek, attractive package. Everything weather-related is included: indoor temp, indoor humidity, outdoor temp, outdoor humidity, atmospheric pressure, heat index, dew point and forecast trend. It also sports a calendar, atomic clock with dual alarms, a graphic showing the current moon phase and battery indicators for both the base and the outdoor sensor. Whew!Let’s start with the instruction booklet. Instead of taking a minimalist approach, it is very thorough and covers each feature using understandable vocabulary (no Engrish). The base unit comes with an A/C adapter for power. Three AA batteries (not included) provide backup in the event A/C power is lost. The outdoor sensor is powered by two AA batteries. We found that rechargeable NiMH batteries work just fine.Set up is relatively simple -- just plug it in, install batteries in the outdoor sensor, then set the date and time zone (ET, CT, MT, PC). Within just a few seconds the base unit automatically pairs up with the signal transmitted from the outdoor sensor. After we placed the base in its desired location, it began searching for the WWVB radio signal every hour on the hour to set the atomic clock. But after a week of continual searching, it was unable to receive it the signal. As a test, we took the base out on our screened back porch and it found the signal immediately. Obviously, the location we had chosen in the house was not ideal for proper reception. Because we wanted to stay with that location, we decided to just set the time manually and leave it at that. After several days, the clock has maintained good time – right down to the second – but like any manual clock, we’ll likely have to adjust it from time to time. The multicolor LED display is distinct and exhibits good contrast. The temperature digits are 1-1/4” tall and the humidity digits are 1”. Both can easily be read from 20 ft away. The time digits are smaller at only about 5/8” tall, but still readable from about 12 ft away (wish those were a tad larger, though). Other information is quite small and you will need to be within about 6 ft to read it.There are 3 user-selectable brightness levels: high, low, off. During the daytime, in a well-lit room, the low setting is plenty bright. And the viewing angle is very satisfactory. There is little, if any, dimming when viewed from above (if the unit is on a knee-high shelf and you are standing very close) or from extreme left and right angles. But when viewed from below (if the unit is on a high shelf and you are seated directly below it) the display appears dim and the information is not as legible. See photos. On the rear of the unit, the buttons for adjusting the settings and alarms have a positive, tactile action. They don’t feel cheap or ‘mushy’.For the outdoor sensor, it’s best to mount it in a location protected from direct sun/rain/snow, such as under an eve or covered porch. Using the keyhole slot on the rear of the sensor, a single screw or nail keeps it secure. It has its own LCD display showing temperature and humidity, but because the digits are relatively small, it’s only legible within a distance of about 3 feet. The dual alarm clock is easy to set, but please note, it lacks a Mon-Fri mode which people on a regular work schedule might have found to be helpful. After two weeks, we find that we’re really liking this device. The temperature, humidity and other data appears to be very accurate and reliable. If you’re like us and want to have immediate access to the live weather conditions both inside and outside your home, then this unit is for you. Highly recommended.

This is a nice product with a nice size display. I like the kickstand in the back, which makes it easy to set it up on a table or shelf (which is where I put mine). I like that it can be used with batteries or with an AC adaptor. There are a few things I didn't like. I wouldn't say they are necessarily bad, they just aren't my preference.1) The display seems too busy. There is too much information on the display that it takes getting used to it to find the information that is useable to me. Giving the option to turn some of those options on/off would be ideal. I didn't care for a lot of the information on the display, and I would have liked to turn them off and focus on the ones I do like and want to see.2) The calendar section, the section most useful to me, was far too small. The date uses a green font color that makes it hard to see at a distance, and the fact that it's also small makes it worst.2) The power cord is weird. Instead of having a port for an AC Adaptor, there is a short wire coming out of the unit with an end port. From that end port, the AC adaptor gets plugged into it. I am not entirely sure what the thought behind this design was, but I hated it. This means if something happens to the wire that comes from the unit, you will be at the mercy of the manufacturer for repair. You can't just replace the AC Adaptor and be done with it.I gave it a 4 star because I think overall it is a decent unit. However, given the points I outlined above, it is simply not for me.
