I got it together after much finagling and it did not last. Seems like just somebody throws a part out there and now it's your problem

My old solder station from my first real job is now 36 years old to me. It was several years old before that, and a couple of the locals techs cobbled this one together for me out of spare parts as a going away gift! In terms of longevity, best going away gift ever. Scientific Atlanta, 1988. That you again guys! This thing is so old, beat up, used and loved, I would never part with it. When I do need new tips - and the retention barrel for the tips which the old one just corroded away over time - I buy Weller. You should too.

for the old WTCPL solder station, a combination of this BA60 and the TC201 will fix it, a little expensive but the old WTCPx series works to well to give up on.. (the old station had a BA60, the tip end on this one must have a revision as it does work with the upgraded TC201)

take the old sleeve off before you buy this, I did not expect it to be welded together and so hard to get off. I damaged the heater unit trying to separate it

I replaced the old straight style barrel and heater on an old 1970's Weller Model W-TCP-L iron. Threading the new BA60 barrel to new TC208 was a little tight. I used a little oil and wrapped a rag around the collar nut to prevent splitting or marring by plier jaws. Hard to say if the BA60 Thread was responsible or the TC208 thread. I then removed the collar nut and cleaned some very minor shavings. The Collar nut can now easily be removed and tightened by hand for changing alloy tips.

This fits the modern EC234 heater element, and does not fit the 40 year old EC234 heater element. (And vice-verse, the old BA60 barrel does not fit the moden EC234.) So if you're upgrading a 40 year old Weller soldering iron like I was, you need both the modern EC234 heater element and this moden BA60 barrel nut to go with it. I have a fuller review in the EC234 heater Amazon page (the one from authorized Weller parts dealer).

Old soldering iron, lost part. Just damned glad that someone still sells the OEM replacement part.

I don't know if my previous barrel nut assembly was fused to the tip or if it just used to come as one unit. In any case, I needed this along with a new tip. Works fine, if a little expensive for what it is.
