I was trying to replace the pencil from my weller 40 watt system and bought this because it is represented as 40 watt BUT IS NOT it’s a 60 watt and the tip is huge not for electronics. Was going to return it but decided to double down and ordered three smaller tips to fit the new pencil. It fits in the holder after a slight modification to the holder and although the unit is large it might be nice to have the more powerful heater as I can dial it down with the base power supply.

I love this soldering iron! It is perfect for setting Knurled Nut Inserts! Fair price and it arrived quickly. I use it often. For first time buyers, it is helpful to get additional Heat-Set insert tips if you plan to use this on different type and sized repairs and projects. Pay attention to the tip sizes you have before purchasing nut inserts. Absolutely recommend!

Not even with day to day use, worked about 2 months and quit. The LED's still work, great! The heating element obviously has become open. Can't get any heat out of it. 30 days now past the return window of Amazon, no luck there. When I click for further warranty info Amazon says to contact the manufacturer. I think I just threw $28 bucks out the window.

I needed a 40w soldering iron for attaching brass heat inserts into 3d printed parts. This soldering iron works fine for this, and I have been able to dial in the temperature I want by plugging this iron into a variac. Since there is no read out on temperature I just use some scrap 3d printed material to dial-in what heat is best for the brass inserts and then switch to the parts I care about. Works great. And if you take notes you can write down what variac setting is best for what you're doing and more easily dial it in the next time. Expect the iron to last me for years.

FYI : Regular solder has acid in it that will eat away at your tips. Make sure to clean your tips during and after usage. I originally left a 3 star review because the tip was disintegrating but did some research on it and found out it can happen if you don't clean it like you should.Hands down great soldering iron. I will purchase new tips through Weller soon.

I was able to attach other tips from other brands. It may have a gap, but with the screw tight, heat spreads quickly.

I own a plethora of soldering irons but apparently, none of them worked with the heat-set insert tools I needed (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B17VQLD). I make several things with my 3D printer and need to screw things in my prints. Screwing into plastic may be fine once or twice but repeatedly, you need to use heat-set inserts. This iron works well with the different insert tools. I have not had a single issue. This iron is dedicated to that purpose and performs its task quite well.

Worth the extra few bucks for a soldering iron that heats fast and does what needs to be done. Would be nice if it came with smaller tips tho

This is the best iron I have ever used. It heats up HOT and makes short work out of a project. That being said, it is very hot and you should probably have your project set up for soldering action without a bunch of shenanigans because I would not want to leave this hot AF soldering iron on for too long. Could maybe use a temp control. The LED lighting is very welcome. The tip even came pre tinned. Awesome. Shortest and best soldering job I have ever done with the least amount of reindeer games.

This is a great soldering iron for a great price! My use of the Weller SP40NUS is mostly for Arduino and Raspberry Pi type small electronics. The Weller gets hot fast, stays hot and is the perfect steady temperature for even non-lead solder. Recommend this Soldering Iron, especially over any other non-named brand. Weller is clearly a brand/name that I trust and will continue to purchase products from! Please note, you may want to pick-up/use a different tip if your going to solder small joints. The tip that comes with this Weller SP40NUS is a flat tip and pretty thick in comparison to other tips. Do not get me wrong, it is a great tip and I use it almost everyday along with a small array of other finer point tips. A finer point tip is most likely desired for smaller Arduino/Raspberry Pi size solder joints.
