Yes you can use lead tape or lead fishing weights. But, for a uniform weight on the grip, this is IMO, the only way to go. Its traditional and ALL the Pro do the same!!!!

I got this wrap to replace a different wilson wrap a much thinner grooved black tape that rolled over itself and didn't adhear well. This has a lovely leather ish look from a distance and when giving it a try it worked out so much better. Held on strong thru multiple practices and the grip is a mid level allowing controlled slip when needing to extend range I now have it on all my gear.

The two sided tape below the grip detached during wrapping making process more difficult. Not the same quality as the original.

It has the thickness of leather grip, but it definitely feels like a synthetic overgrip. It does work very well, especially if you like a bit of a thicker grip.
