The silicone stoppers fit all the "standard" 750ml bottles I've tried them on, sealing well whether those bottles were the screw-cap type or the corked bottles. The mouth of "magnum" bottles are too wide for this product.The stopper fits easily into the top of the bottle, with the wider end resting on the rim of the bottle. The pump is then placed on the stopper and forms an adequate seal to the stopper. Press and hold the pump down onto the rim of the stopper for better results. Cycle the pump several times until it becomes difficult, because there's very little air left to pull from the bottle. Remove the pump, and check the seal of the stopper. If it doesn't easily pull out, you're done!I'm not sure how long this stopper will keep the wine fresh, but I've gone two weeks in a mini-fridge without noticing any degradation of the wine's flavor. I'm not exactly a connoisseur, however.Storing the wine bottle vertically or horizontally doesn't seem to matter.

I got this to replace an older set I had and was impressed with the stoppers but very disappointed in the piece you use to get the air out of the wine bottle. There is not a good seal of the plunger so air leaks in from the sides preventing you from getting a good vacuum in the wine bottle.Luckily the stoppers fit the previous handle which works great.In short, great stoppers, ok handle.. but you need the set to work.

The pump had zero suction. Did not create any vacuum whatsoever in the bottle.Update: The sellers contacted me and sent me a replacement. The new one they sent me works much better than the original one I received

BETTFOR Wine Saver Vacuum Pump with 4 Wine Stoppers, Wine Bottle Stoppers with Food Grade Silicone Leak proof Keep Fresh Suitable for All Standard Wine Bottles does a good job, at an excellent price.I rarely open a bottle of wine for myself, because I don't like how the wine turns sour by the next day after being exposed to air. This Wine Saver device really does work. I opened a bottle of a lovely Rioja, and enjoyed a couple of glasses. I inserted a wine stopper and used the vacuum pump to evacuate as much air as possible, and left the bottle on the countertop. The next evening, I poured a small amount into a wine glass and it tasted just a tiny bit off from the freshly opened bottle.At the current retail price of $8.49, I can tell you that I am including this in multiple people's stockings for Christmas next year. It's a great purchase for anyone who enjoys wine from time to time.
