I needed an inexpensive chisel for some light mortise and tenon work on a job site with a friend—mostly just cleaning up some knotty pine joints. There were a ton of options on Amazon under $20, but I chose this one after seeing a review with a picture of a rusty chisel. That rust told me it was high-carbon steel, not stainless. (I can’t stand stainless tools—usually soft, not tool-grade, and just not worth it.)When it arrived, it was rough—not UN-usable, just not up to the highest standards [but with lots of potential]. So I took it to my shop/forge and ran it through a progression from 400 to 3,000 grit (400, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000), using WD-40 between grits. The result? Incredible polish and sharpness. It holds an edge really well.Hands down, a great $9 purchase.Picks are of both top and bottom of the tool.

Notches 2x4's like a dream. The metal seems good quality. the blade is beautifully cut, super sharp, great angle. Zoom in on the side of the blade in one of the pics to make your own judgement about the polish on the rest of the blade, if that matters. It has a binding ring on the but to reduce the damage by hammering. It'll last a while, but that's totally dependent upon what you're chiseling and how hard your hitting with a hammer. The blade's edge has held up to preliminary use, and it will be an easy sharpen given it's design, when necessary.
